The Seventh Art In New York
New York Film Festival (NYFF) excitement is mounting for the 50th time. And Yeşim Ustaoğlu’s latest film, Araf, is in the festival this year.
Offering audiences a selection of the year’s finest examples of European and American independent cinema, NYFF has been one of the favorite festivals of this city since 1963. As North America’s second oldest film festival turns half a century, a special selection has been put together for New York film lovers in a year-long retrospective called 50 Years of NYFF. Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Once Upon A Time in Anatolia is the 2011 film selected by a special jury from the festival’s last 49 years for screening in the event.
Screenings in the festival, which kicked off on September 28 and runs through October 14, are ongoing at Alice Tully Hall on 65th Street, Water Reader Theater, and Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center.
