City Guide: Zurich

Switzerland being a federation since 1848 is divided into 26 cantons. A canton is a territorial subdivision of a country. The cantons of Switzerland are the states of the Federal State of Switzerland. Each canton is represented at the state parliament. Zurich being the biggest city of Switzerland with a population 367.000 (population of urban area; about 1.1 million) is the capital of the canton of Zurich. While the canton of Zurich is placed at the northeast of Switzerland, Zurich city is located at the southwest of the Zurich Canton. Zurich admired as a cosmopolitan global city lies at the end of Zurich Lake on Limmat River. Also, Sihl River passes through the city located in an open valley.

• Tourist Attractions

  Zurich is the Switzerland's main cultural and commercial city. According to many surveys, the city is cited as the city enabling the best quality of life all over the world. Zurich is home to UBS (the world's largest manager of Private Wealth assets), Credit Suisse, Swiss Re and the Swiss Stock Exchange. The city is the center of the world's off-shore banking through Swiss Bank.
