Tourist Attractions
Darul Aman Palace is located on the road that shares its name, next to Kabul Museum. The structure was built as the palace of King Amanullah Khan in 1920. It was renovated again and again due to wars, earthquakes and such reasons. Another round of renovation of this architectural work is being considered at this time. Daoud Khan Monument, located on the hill behind Darul Aman Palace gives you the opportunity to see South Kabul in a wide range.
Bagh-e Babur, the Gardens of Babur, is the name of the area including the grave of Shah Babur, who first made Kabul the capital city, and its surroundings.Although the emperor, who founded the empire known by his name, wanted to be buried there originally, he was first buried in Agra, then his grave was moved to where it is today. The gardens are also used as a picnic area.
Bagh-e Bala was built at the end of the 19th century as the summer palace of Emir Abdur Rahman. The area surrounding the palace, the authentic inner design of which was mostly protected and remains as original, was arranged as a park.
Abdul Rahman Mosque is the largest place of worship in Afghanistan. 10 thousand people can worship there at the same time. Saudi Arabia provided asistance in order for this mosque, the construction of which began during the Taliban regime, to be finished. There is a madrasah within its grounds. -
Culture & Entertainment
The National Museum of Afghanistan is located on Darul Aman Road in the southern part of Kabul. One of the richest collections of not only Afghanistan but also the Middle East is for you to see there. Although it was marauded during the Taliban regime, it is still a magnificent museum to be seen.
Kabul Zoo is an entertainment location that is popular among the people of the city. It may come across as surprising that one of the biggest supporters of the zoo, where approximately 100 animals live in, is China. However, animal deaths due to epidemics have made China withdraw the support it has given until living conditions are improved.
National Gallery of Afghanistan can be visited within the mesmerizing Kabul house it is located in. Although a considerable portion of the 820 pictures and 210 portraits have been maraudered, it is open to visitors every day except Friday. -
Food & Drink
Places to eat in the city are clustered around the central area. In addition to restaurants serving Afghani food, there are those that serve dishes of Turkish, Lebanese, and Iranian cuisines.
Qargha (Karga) Lake is located 9 km. west of the city.Restaurants located there offer both local/authentic and international foods. Sports such as swimming, water kayaking...etc can be done on the lake as well. -
Shopping
Items bought and sold in Afghanstan fall under a few general categories. Carpets, rugs and other textiles, together with fresh or dried fruits are among products that are readily available at markets daily.
Bagh-e Zanana, which can be translated as Women's Park, is literally a marketplace and park where only women are allowed in. Taking into account the fact that women cannot walk around in other parts of the city comfortably, it is quite understandable how this area satisfies a very important need. Women can shop there as well as sell their handcrafted products.
