City Guide : CologneStanding as the Germany's oldest fundamental city, Cologne is a city in the North Rhine-Westphalia (Nordrhein-Westfalen) Federal State of Germany. Cologne lies on the Rhine, one of the most important rivers in Europe. It is the 4th largest city in Germany after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. Cologne is popular with its splendid architectural and cultural treasury. Cologne is famous for its Kölsch beer.
Tourist AttractionsCologne is a world city with its architectural structures, historical and cultural treasuries and world famous museums.
Since its completion in 1880, Kölner Dom (Cologne Cathedral) is the spiritual and geographical hub of the city and is the most famous landmark. The Cathedral is administered by the Roman Catholic Church and the seat of Archbishop of Cologne.
Cologne boasts with its Domschatzkammer at the city center. The Cathedral Treasury will attract you with its robes, sculptures, reliquaries and liturgical objects.

Himmel un Ääd (mashed potatoes with apple mash together with onion and a special sausage), Flönz (a kind of blood sausage), Rievkoche (potato pancake, especially with apple mash), Rheinischer Soorbrode (beef), Röggelchen (a kind of roll made of rye, eaten with cheese), Kölscher Kaviar (a special blood sausage with onions)...
The beer of Cologne, the Kölsch beer, is world wide famous. It is served in the sylindrical glasses named as Kölner Stangen each of which can include, at most, 0.2 liters of Kölsch.
ShoppingIn addition to its architecture and culture, Cologne is world-renown with its department stores and shopping centers. All wishes and needs are internationally and nationally fulfilled via the limitless alternatives of the shopping world at the city.

40th Anniversary Celebrations In Cologne
Attended by more than 1500 invited guests, the evening brought together a wide array of prominent businessmen and politicians as well as leading figures from the media world and organizations of çivil society.
A first in its field, the Turkish Airlines Chamber Orchestra, founded under the leadership of composer-conductor Betin Güneş, presented guests with some outstanding works of western classical music as well as a selection from Turkish composer Cemal Reşit Rey and Istanbul classical music.
Host of the evening, Turkish Airlines’ President Temel Kotil, Ph.D. pointed out that Turkish Airlines is the only airline to have its own orchestra. Another pleasant surprise for guests was the Turkish Airlines Symphony, composed specially for the evening by orchestra conductor Güneş.
The same evening Temel Kotil, Ph.D. presented a plaque to Cologne Airport Managing Director Michael Garvens, who in turn expressed his pleasure to be working with Turkish Airlines.
