City Guide : ZurichSwitzerland being a federation since 1848 is divided into 26 cantons. A canton is a territorial subdivision of a country. The cantons of Switzerland are the states of the Federal State of Switzerland. Each canton is represented at the state parliament. Zurich being the biggest city of Switzerland with a population 367.000 (population of urban area; about 1.1 million) is the capital of the canton of Zurich. While the canton of Zurich is placed at the northeast of Switzerland, Zurich city is located at the southwest of the Zurich Canton. Zurich admired as a cosmopolitan global city lies at the end of Zurich Lake on Limmat River. Also, Sihl River passes through the city located in an open valley.
Zurich is the Switzerland's main cultural and commercial city. According to many surveys, the city is cited as the city enabling the best quality of life all over the world. Zurich is home to UBS (the world's largest manager of Private Wealth assets), Credit Suisse, Swiss Re and the Swiss Stock Exchange. The city is the center of the world's off-shore banking through Swiss Bank.
Fraumünster Church at the center of the city was founded by King Louis (German) in 853. The church's tinted glass windows and the architectural features of the church together with the history of it will mystify you. Grossmünster Church and St. Peter's Church are among the other significant religious structures of the city.
Kunsthaus Art Museum at the center of the city includes the works of Edward Munch, Van Gogh, Picasso, Claude Monet, March Chagal, Rothko, Merz, Twombly, Bacon and more.
Flutern Cemetery at Zulichberg is the grave of Irish writer James Joyce. The statute of the literature writer is available here.
Belvoir Park at Seestrasse and Bruno Weber's Vineyard Park (20.000 km2 ) are among the main city parks.
Museum of Design Zurich West harbors many excellent exhibitions. You should visit this art-related place.
Culture & EntertainmentOld Hammer Mill is the oldest waterpower driven mill in the country. You will realize blacksmiths working there. The exhibition floor shows off many works.
Goldapfel Schabock Bakery placed at Einsiedein is a historical building left from the 19th century. Bakery implements and wooden patterns denote the old bakery culture.
Zurich Opera House and Tonhalle Concert Hall are the leading opera, ballet and classic music places in Europe.
Zuri-West hosts specialty bars offering urban entertainment and music. Mannerbad and Frauenbad are the parts of the city for popular entertainment venues.

Old Town (coffee shops and antiques stores), Bahnhofstrasse (banking district, exclusive boutiques, shopping malls, cafes), Langstrasse (the multicultural district, everything you look for), Niederdorf (daily and night party shopping) districts are the main shopping locations.
