City Guide: BangkokLocated on the flat plain of Mae Nam Chao Phraya (Chao Phraya River), near the Gulf of Thailand, Bangkok is the capital and the most populous city of Thailand. The Capital is the economic, politic, cultural, commercial, educational and transportation center of the country. Placed at the hearth of the South Asia, Bangkok is the fundamental economic and financial center of the South Asia.
Tourist AttractionsThe large number of cultural sites make Bangkok one of the world's top tourist destinations. This modern and westernized city has a gallant landscape. The great range of temples, Buddha images and Royal structures bring up the old and genuine facet of the city.
Abhisek Dusit Throne Hall at Th Ratchawithi is a royal building constructed by King Chulalongkorn who is the first Thai monarch taking in Europe. This is a Thai structure influenced by the Western form.
Temple of the Emerald Buddha at Ko Ratanakosin is an architectural brilliant with 66 cm high figure of Emerald Buddha. The Thai Buddhism sort of interior and exterior design of the temple will mesmerize you.
Wat Mahatat at Ko Ratanakosin is the major center of Buddhist learning all over the Southeast Asia. The temple teems with monks and visitors.
Ancient City (Meuang Boran) is a fabulous architectural site. The classical old buildings are kept and the skyline of the city is displayed at this open-air museum. A plenty of the most significant attractions of the city are placed here.
Lumphini Park at Silom is the biggest green part of the city. The park is one of the fundamental choices for youngsters and the other inhabitants to stay away from the crowd of the city.
Culture & EntertainmentBangkok is the cultural capital of the city. The city harbors many theaters, cultural centers, art galleries, festivals and the other cultural events. Thailand Cultural Center is one of the major performing arts location for the traditional shows and cultural performances.
The city is busy with celebrations and festivals throughout the year. Bangkok Songkran Festival (April 12-14) is the traditional Thai New Year. The King's Birthday Celebrations (December 5) is the event for commemorating H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej. During these celebrations, the buildings at every part of the country are garnished and the Grand Palace area is illuminated for the respected monarch.
Bangkok gives a great range of opportunities to perform many sport activities. Tennis, gym, yoga, boxing, swimming and golf are among the main recreational sport activities. Meuang Boran is eligible for long and comfortable bicycle rides and teemed with many green places for picnics.
Bangkok is one of the top destinations in the world for nightlife. Nightclubs, discos, bars, clubs and the other entertainment venues appeal to all tastes. Khao San Road and Royal City Avenue are the main locations for the nightlife in the city.
Food & DrinkIf you want to find the palates of all the cuisines in the world you should visit Bangkok. You will come across a restaurant and a street food vendor at every point of the city. The gourmets taste from everything by taking a few steps. The restaurants of every category swarm at the city to offer whatever is in or out of your mind.
Bang Lamphu (Indian, Jewish, especially Thai and Chinese dishes), Phahurat (Indian), Silom Road (Thai, seafood, sushi), Siam Square (various including European), Soi Lang Suan (Asian, European, Thai), Sukhumvit Road (cosmopolitan) are among the main food streets of the city.
ShoppingIn addition to its culinary culture, Bangkok boasts with its shopping world. The Capital is generous concerning the shopping experiences that it offers. Street markets, luxury malls, fashion boutiques, outlets and floating markets offer limitless choices.
Chatuchak Weekend Market at Lat Phrao is the largest market in the country. It is one of the splendid ones of its type in the world. You will be able to find everything in that market. Housewares, clothing, Thai handicrafts, foods, animals, accessories and whatever you want are sold at this market.
Siam Paragon and CentralWorld shopping malls placed on Roma I road are the two largest and luxurious malls in the South East Asia. Siam Square is one of the fundamental shopping areas of the city.
