A Victory Legend

We Celebrate This Month The 98th Anniversary Of The Victory At Gallipoli, One Of The Turning Points Of The First World War.

But what makes it the stuff of legend is the rare heroism and self-sacrifice demonstrated by the Turkish people. From private to commissioned officer to high commander, everyone joined together with one heart to defend Istanbul and the fatherland. Mustafa Kemal Pasha, the hero of Anafartalar, and Fevzi Pasha, the Commander of the Fifth Army, as well as countless other Ottoman officers were the invaluable military men who sealed that victory. The naval battle that ensued on March 18, 1915, decided the fate of Gallipoli. Tens of thousands of soldiers from as far afield as France, India, Australia and New Zealand came and fought in the battle. Their memory lives on today in ceremonies to commemorate the importance of peace and friendship.
