City Guide: Tel Aviv
Residing as a modern city where the East meets West, Tel Aviv is a city located on the Israeli Mediterranean Coastal Plain. Above one third of Israel's population lives in the metropolitan area of this high culture city. The city is magnificent with its beaches of 14 kilometers along the Mediterranean seashore and a great deal of museums. The Bauhaus architecture of the city is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.-
Tourist Attractions
Old Jaffa and Jaffa Port are the most attractive sites to start touring in Tel Aviv. The ancient churches, fantastic stone buildings and the alleyways are there to take you to the ancient history of the city. Jaffa Port used as a fishing port reflects the ancient times. Tel Aviv Promenade expends between Jaffa Port and the North Tel Aviv.
Bauhaus had been used for an art and architecture school in Germany existed between 1919 and 1933. This architectural style was brought to Tel Aviv by Aries Sharon and Yak Richter who are the graduates of this school. In the center of the city, such beautiful buildings and structures are preserved. Here is the White City of Tel Aviv.
Azrieli Center is composed of three skyscrapers. The complex appears as the highest observatory in the Middle East.
Yehoshua Gardens (Hayarkon Park) is the planted area along the Hayarkon River. In addition to the genuine gardens, the park harbors huge lawns and an artificial lake.
Tel Aviv is home to a plenty of museums of art, culture and history. The three of the largest museums of the country are existed in Tel Aviv. The Land of Israel Museum ( Eretz Israel Museum) is a collection of museums including glass, ceramics, copper, ethnography and more museums. Tel Aviv Museum of Art and Jewish Diaspora Museum are the other two ones. -
Culture & Entertainment
Tel Aviv has a vibrant culture including music, dance, theater, couture centers and libraries. While all forms of dances are taught at the city's community centers Tel Aviv is a theater center being the place for the first Hebrew theaters.
Habima (Israel's national theater), Cameri Theater, Beit Lessin Theatre and Gesher are among the main theaters of the city. Tzavta, Suzann Dellal and Tel Aviv Performing Arts Center are the main centers for dance, theatre, music and cultural events.
The city is home to the popular Bat Sheva, Inbal and Bat Dor dance companies of Israel.
New Israel Opera, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Israel Chamber Music Orchestra are placed at Tel Aviv.
National Young Jazz Contest, Annual Concert for Piano and Chamber Ensembles, the Theatrical Autumn (festival of Community Theater) are some of the main cultural events held in Tel Aviv.
The long promenade of the city, beaches, sea cruises from the port of the city and the nightlife venues available at the city are the main entertainment options offered by Tel Aviv to the visitors and the inhabitants. There are 12 magnificent sun-soaked beaches filled with golden sand. Yarkon Estuary (the Port Area) is the entertainment center of the city. Theaters, nightclubs, cafes, bars, restaurants are ample here. -
Food & Drink
Tel Aviv has a culinary culture offering from every kind of cuisines. Asian, home cuisine, European, Ethiopian, Jewish cuisine, Mediterranean, Thai, Indian, sea food, vegetarian, meat, fast food and fish all are from the varying cuisine of Tel Aviv.
Homebaking Food Fair at the Dizengoff Centre is one of the best markets selling homemade flavors. From chalet (stew with beans) to mellower (a fried pastry), you will find all the palates of the Jewish cuisine.
The cafe restaurants lined up along the streets of the city are pretty popular. The places near the beaches, Sheinken Street and Rothschiid Boulevard are filled with crowded piling in these cafes. -
Shopping
Tel Aviv shopping world is popular with its shopping malls, design shops, fashion boutiques and markets. You will experience that shopping is an integral part of the social life in the city.
Dizengoff Street is one of the most prestigious areas of the city. A great range of fashion shops are available at this street. Sheinkin Street has a great deal of shops.
Nachlat Benyamin Pedestrian Mall is one of the significant shopping malls in the city. The market at this mall is filled with souvenirs, foods and local arts.
Bezalel Market, Carmel Market and Food Market of Dizengoff Center are three of the major markets at the city.
