Bashkortostan is an autonomous republic within the Russian Federation, according to the Russian Constitution and the Federative Agreement, has legislative and executive institutions. The legislative and executive members are elected by the people.

Bashkortostan Republic is in the area between Asia and Europe, goes up westward from the South Ural untill Kama and Belaya rivers. Provides strategic transport links between Kazakhstan and Tatarstan to other Russian regions.
Ufa which is the capital city, an industrial center of the Bashkortostan Republic. Also has the largest area in Idil-Ural region Turkish Republics with 143,600 km2. As administration Bashkortostan has five states (Ufa, Sterlitamak, Simbay, Sibay, Belebey) and is divided into 17 cities.
The total population of Bashkortostan Republic is 4,104,000 according to census in 2002. 28.4% of the general population consists from Tatar Turks, 21.9% of the population of the republic consists from itself Bashkort Turks. When 3% of the general population Chuvas Turks, is added to this rate, total Turkish population becomes 53.3% of the general population. 60% of the Bashkort Turks lives in Bashkortostan Republic, 33% lives in the other republics of the Russian Federation . Population of Bashkortostan Republic, takes place in RF.
The word Bashkort is derived from word five Oguz said by the legends. Abu l-Gazi Bahadır Han mentions that Kıpcaks constitute the majority of the Bashkorts. Bashkort name, goes into the old Arab sources as "Bascirt" or "Basgir". According to another rumor, Bashkorts have the name cause of their respect to wolf and the legend that a wolf leaded their establishment in southern Urals.
The literacy rate of Bashkortostan is 99% and Bashkorts have a rich tradition of folk literature. "Sesen" with the name similar to the aforementioned, and poet of the old minstrel, Bashkort Turks until today took the wealth of oral literature.
As one of the most important type Bashkort folk culture of the epic, can be divided into two parts regarding to their subjects. The first one takes its subject from social life and tells more about love. The second subject area of history and mythology from the creation of the universe, and tells the story of a national hero in an epic way. This sagas show similarities with names, topics and way of tell to the other Turk races’ legends. Bashkort Turks work on Turki which called by Turkistan and East European Turks, for a long period time.
The economic structure of Bashkortostan republic which affected directly by RF’s economic situation , is based on agriculture stockbreeding and industry. There are 647 kolkhoz and 95 solkhoz in the country.
Bashkortostan has very important petrol and natural gas pipelines. Refineries and petro-chemical plants is the main pillars of the economy. Country also has coal, copper, bauxite, gold, manganese, chromium, iron and salt deposits.
Advanced manufacturing industry, petroleum, natural gas, iron and steel, coal, electricity, cement, sugar, timber, cotton and woolen textiles states a significant role in the economy. Aircraft manufacturing, fertilizer, leather, tobacco, shipbuilding, railway and road vehicles are the main fabrications of the country.
In the cities of Ufa, Sterlitamak, İsinbay, Kumertau, Karmavoua there are big power plants.
Republic has 50 million tons capacity for the four oil refinery to operate annually , but still not enough raw material for the oil refinery in Siberia only 25 million tons of oil with the oil business can be processed.There are many factories based on by-products of Petroleum industry. Moreover, the enhanced status in the optical industry.
F-27 and F-29 aircraft engine factories in Stalitomak and helicopters industrial facilities are in Ufa. Also Large passenger bus type vehicles are being produced by the auto industry center in Ufa.
From Ufa till Astrakhan river transportation is available.
Besides carrying trade you can find touristic tours and passenger transportation.
