City Guide: Rostov-On-Don

Russia’s the most crowded 4th region Rostov is located at the South of the country,above Don River,along the Sea of Azov.City’s name,also known as “Rostov Na Danu”,comes from Dmitry Rostovsky Castle.Because this castle is above Don River,city’s name has become Rostov-on-Don.There are many park,four theatres,one orchestra,one race field and one seaside in the city.Rostov is an entrance door to Caucasia.

• Tourist Attractions

  The big cathedrat at the Rostov city square dates back to 12th century.The tolls which were named one by one after the restoration of the cathedral in 17th century,made those toll towers the most famous ones in Russia.The biggest toll was made in 1688 and it weights exactly 32 thousand tones. Name “Sysoi “was given to this toll in the honour of the city’s name father.
  
  Yakovlevsaky Monastery was enriched with the sculptures made in the late 1700s and early 1800s.It also cocnsists of two churches of 17th century.The most remarkable difference of those curches than the others is they are Orthodox churches.
  
  Borisoglebsky ,one the residential districts of the city is 17km away from Rostov and along the Ustye River.Having so much attention from the tourists, Borisoglebsky Monastery is todas used as a museum.Monastery,made in the name of Saint Boris and Gleb,know with Ivan the Terrbile had its toll walls and toll towers made.The only building added after Ivan’s death is the church which is famous for its amazng engravings.
  
  Lake Nero,in the neighbourhood of Rostov,is a lake which exhibits natural beauties.Shallow lake which is in Yaroslavl Oblast,is one of the rare examples which was formed before the ice age in Russia.

  It is possible nearly everyday to celebrate somebody in Russia.The Russian are both careful about their birthdays-anniversaries and national,international,religious,occupational celebrations.1st-2nd January New Year,7th January Orthodox Christmas,23rd February Soldiers Day,8th March Women Day,1st-2nd May Workers and Spring Festival,9th May Victory Festival,12nd June Independence Day,7th November National Agreement Day,12nd December  Constitution Festival are in the statutus of official festivals.
  
  People keen on fishing should know there are crane,sea bass,carp,rockfish and dace in the Veselovskaye river basin which is in the district of Rostov-on-Don.

• Food & Drink

  Lunch is very important for the Russians.The first eat appetizer and than drink soup in this meal.Russians use  “eating soup” instead of “drinking soup”.This is beacuse their soups are so dense and consist of so much ingredients.With its 500 various kinds,their most famous soup “borsc” weights all the Russian kitchen.
  
  Russian kitchen is based on meat.After soup,meat is eaten as main food with potato.Generally beef,poultry,sheep and Bacon are consumed.Because there are lots of hunting areas in Russia,hunted animals enrich kitchens.Rabbit,gazelle,boar,duck,goose and deer are among the most-hunted animals.Carrot,potato,cabbage,turnip,cucumber,onion,garlic and pumpkin are commonly used vegetables in the kitchens.
  
  Rostov climate is milder compared to the general Russia climate.In this case,the regions is the biggest fruit producing area around the country.Cavier,provided from the sturgeon which lives in Caspian Sea is known as world’s the most famous and delicious fish egg.Black cavier is eaten with sour cream and Bliny which is fried in oil with onion.

  Rostov is a port city and progressing by putting forward this feature of its in recent years.The number of the big shopping malls are increasing.Turkey’s biggest shopping malls Ramstore and Metro have branches at Rostov-on-Don.There is also a shopping mall which have 100 textile store and 30 of those are Turkish leather shops.Rostov is an exhibition city.
  
  Golden has an important place in Rostov’s economy.Golden is not provided in here but it has broad selling and engraving market.Russia taxes half of the imported things so by this ways forms its market.Also pillows and quilts are made from goose feather in the city.
