Do I need a health report to board the flight? Read more

Only the HES code is required for domestic flights; health reports are not required. However, passengers may not be permitted to board flights if they show signs of illness and/or have a temperature that exceeds 38°. Passengers’ temperatures are taken at participating airports.

Since the HES code not required for infants, you will not see them listed in the HES code entry area during the ticketing process. We would like to remind you that all infants who have not yet reached their 2nd birthday are accepted as babies and all infants who are over 2 years of age are considered as children.

I am not a Turkish citizen. How do I obtain my HES code? Read more

How can I fly within Turkey? Read more

I am over 65 years old. Can I travel intercity? Can I board flights? Read more

In accordance with the notice published by the Ministry of Internal Affairs on May 29, 2020, if you have a Travel Permit Document or comply with the terms set forth in the notice (link in Turkish), you can conduct intercity travel and board the flight. Please remember to obtain your HES code in addition to the required Travel Permit Document.

Will there be a Covid test to board the aircraft? Read more

No such practice has yet been made within the scope of the instructions of our Ministry of Health. If such an application is mandatory, our passengers will be informed through our communication channels and website.

Is it mandatory to wear a mask during the flight? Read more

Wearing a mask while boarding and during the flight is mandatory. You may wear a fabric or medical mask. As single-use surgical masks must be changed every four hours, you are advised to bring enough masks for the duration of your travel.

Is wearing a mask mandatory for children? Read more

Passengers are required to wear a surgical mask at all stages during the travel process (including on-site ticket purchasing, check-in, boarding, during the flight, while disembarking, at baggage claim, and until departing the terminal). Masks should not be worn by infants (0-2 years of age) due to the risk of suffocation. Masks or bandanas in the appropriate sizes must be worn by children (2-12 years of age).

Travel Permit Document is required only for passengers 65 and older for domestic flights. The Travel Permit Document code is not mandatory for domestic flights with connecting international flights.

Can passengers younger than 12 years old travel alone? Do they need to be accompanied by a parent/guardian? Read more

In accordance with the health measures taken during the pandemic, passengers between 7 and 12 years of age may board the domestic and direct international flights as Unaccompanied Minors if they are not accompanied by a first degree relative or guardian. However, for domestic flights and international flights with connecting flights, all passengers between 7 and 12 years of age may board the flight if they are accompanied by a parent, first degree relative or guardian.

Are foreign passengers required to have a HES code during the pandemic? How will they board the flight? Read more

All Turkish citizens and people whose Foreigner’s ID No issued by the Turkish Republic start with 97, 98, and 99 are required to obtain the HES code. The Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health is conducting ongoing studies and, if there are changes related to the application, an announcement will be made via the websites of the Ministry and Turkish Airlines.

Will I be permitted to board the flight if there is a health issue notification in the HES code message during the pandemic? Read more

Per instructions from the Ministry of Health, if there is a restriction notification for the HES code holder during the check-in or boarding processes, the passenger will not be permitted to board the flight and contact with the health unit will be ensured.

Are HES codes required for international flights with connecting domestic flights during the pandemic? Read more

The HES code is not mandatory international flights. For International flights with connecting domestic flights (Trabzon-London flight via Istanbul) where there is more than 24 hours of time between connecting flights, HES code is mandatory before the domestic flights.

Are passengers over 65 years of age permitted on flights during the pandemic? Read more

If you comply with the terms set forth in the notice (link in Turkish), you can board the flight.

  • Travel Permit Document is not required for passengers 65 and older arriving from abroad.
  • Travel Permit Document is required for passengers 65 and older arriving from abroad and boarding any domestic flights.

Are passengers with chronic diseases permitted on flights during the pandemic? Read more

At this time, our practices have not changed: Transactions are made according to the passenger declaration. If necessary, a doctor's official approval for travel via plane will be requested.

Will my temperature be measured? Under which conditions are passengers not permitted to board the flight? Read more

At applicable airports, passengers’ temperatures are measured prior to boarding the plane. Passengers with temperatures that exceed 38° are not permitted to board.

Are there any restrictions for pregnant passengers during the pandemic? Read more

Passengers are accepted according to the existing rules.

Can I travel with my pet during the pandemic? Read more

Pets are accepted on our domestic flights in accordance with our current procedures. As long as there are no country restrictions on international flights, the normal process continues.

What is the process for passengers who cannot wear a mask due to health reasons? Read more

These passengers will be expected to submit a doctor’s official report attesting to their condition (heart diease, respiratory problems, asthma, autism, etc). These passengers will be permitted to wear a visor rather than a mask.

Do I have to wear a mask during the flight? What if I wear a visor? Read more

All passengers are required to wear a mask during the flight, except for passengers with special conditions. Passengers can use a visor in addition to a mask.

Can passengers travel on a stretcher? Read more

Passengers may travel on a stretcher in accordance with our current procedures. These passengers must submit a doctor’s official report attesting to their condition, issued in Turkish or English, a maximum of 10 days before the flight. The report should also state that the passenger can travel by plane.

Can I use my own respirator during the flight? Read more

The Existing rules apply. Breathing apparatuses that are currently accepted may be used during this time.

Are flights canceled on days when there is a curfew? How can I board a flight when there is a curfew? Read more

Curfews are reported via circulars from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and there may be different rules within the scope of each prohibition. These rules are announced on the homepage of our website when the curfew is reported.

BEFORE THE FLIGHT

How many hours before the flight should I arrive at the airport during the pandemic? Read more

It is recommended that you arrive at the terminal three hours before your domestic and international flights, taking into account the additional time requirements that may arise due to enhanced measures in the terminal processes.

Do I need to bring extra masks duringg the pandemic? Read more

As part of personal health measures, we recommend that you wear a mask from the moment you step out of your home. As single-use surgical masks must be changed every four hours, you are advised to bring enough masks for the duration of your travel.

Are X-Ray devices and baskets disinfected during the pandemic? Read more

The X-ray devices and baskets are disinfected regularly by IGA.

What coronavirus-related measures are taken at the entrance of Istanbul Airport? Read more

All passengers arriving at Istanbul Airport will pass over the disinfectant mat and enter the terminal. In addition to the metal detectors at the terminal entrance doors, body scanner devices are used. In addition, passengers’ temperatures are measured.

What is the air circulation process in Istanbul Airport during the pandemic? Read more

Istanbul Airport provides 100% fresh air circulation throughout the terminal; clean air flow is regularly checked throughout the terminal.

What protective measures have been implemented to minimize contact within the Istanbul Airport terminal during the pandemic? Read more

There are vending machines for hygiene products located within Istanbul Airport. In areas where there is direct contact with the passengers (information points, shopping areas, exchange offices, etc.), isolation is provided with protective panels.

Can passengers’ friends, family or staff enter the airport during the pandemic? Read more

Due to social distancing rules, only passengers and personnel may enter the airport. Family members, friends and/or staff are not permitted to enter the airport.

How will passengers with disabilities or illnesses be accommodated during the pandemic? Read more

If the security guards at the entrance of the terminal are informed, passengers with disabilities or illnesses are assisted following the necessary checks, and their escorts or companions will be permitted to enter the airport.

How often are passenger check-in and boarding halls cleaned during the pandemic? Read more

The passenger check-in and boarding halls are constantly monitored and disinfected by the Airport Authority.

Are CIP lounges open? Read more

The Lounge Domestic and Istanbul Airport, Lounge Miles&Smiles at the International Terminal of the Istanbul Airport and the Lounge Domestic at the Ankara Esenboga Airport have started providing service. When the other lounges are reopened, passengers will be informed through our communication channels and website.

CHECK-IN AND BAGGAGE

What are the domestic and international cabin baggage allowances? Read more

During the pandemic, If the bag size and weight do not exceed 40x30x15 cm and 4 kg, it can be taken on board as a personal item. Business Class passengers may add two cabin bags up to 8kg, and Economy Class passengers may add one cabin bag up to 8kg to the registered baggage allowance.

How do I obtain a contactless boarding card? Read more

By obtaining a mobile boarding pass or having your boarding pass printed at the counter, you can proceed to the gate contact-free. In addition, check-in kiosks have been enhanced: scanning the barcode (on the back of your TR ID card) via the laser reader on the kiosk device enables automatic contactless check-in. The kiosk device will also print your boarding card and seat assignment.

Can I bring my backpack on board as hand luggage? Read more

If the bag size and weight do not exceed 40x30x15 cm and 4 kg, it can be taken on board as a personal item.

How will transactions be securely performed at check-in kiosks after Covid-19? Read more

At the check-in kiosks, distance lines have been placed to maintain physical distance. Protective panes are placed above the check-in kiosks to ensure safe service distance between you and our staff.

To provide a contactless experience at Istanbul Airport, passengers may print their own passes at boarding pass machines.

Can I bring cabin baggage? Read more

Cabin baggage is no longer accepted inside the aircraft, both to reduce traffic within the aircraft and to maintain physical distance. You can bring one of your personal belongings with you into the cabin. A handbag, laptop, camera, umbrella or baby stroller can be carried with the passenger. Passengers will be offered additional baggage allowance to accommodate cabin baggage. Only personal belongings will be accepted into the cabin and the upper limit must be 40x30x15 cm and a maximum of 4 kg.

How do I tag my luggage without contact if I have checked in online during the pandemic? Read more

You can tag and send your own baggage by having your QR code on your mobile boarding pass scanned at the Self Bag Drop check-in area at Istanbul Airport.

Are the baggage disinfected while they are being taken and delivered? Read more

The X-ray devices and baskets are disinfected regularly by IGA. However, this procedure is not currently conducted for the baggage delivery.

Can diaper bags and/or medical supplies be brought into the cabin during the pandemic? Read more

Bags for passengers with infants and/or children, or passengers with illnesses or disabilities who need medical supplies, are permitted if they comply with the size/weight limits. Any size up to 4 kg can be accepted.

Are there any changes in restrictions on bringing fluids during the pandemic? Read more

No, there are no changes in the fluid restrictions during the pandemic.

Can I add my cabin baggage allowance to my registered baggage allowance during the pandemic? Read more

Business Class passengers may add two cabin bags, and Economy Class passengers may add one cabin bag to the registered baggage allowance.

Will check-in and boarding times change during the pandemic? Read more

Because of additional time requirements due to enhanced safety measures, our check-in closing times are 15 minutes earlier and check-in operations will be closed 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time on domestic flights and 75 minutes before the international flights.

It is recommended to be at the boarding gate one hour before departure for domestic flights, and two hours before departure for international flights.

Changes to these processes and procedures will be announced on our official communication channels.

Are disinfectants and/or cologne permitted on board? Read more

Due to fluid restrictions, disinfectants and colognes over 100ml may not be taken into the aircraft. There is no restriction for disinfectants or colognes in amounts below 100ml.

Are passengers permitted to bring their own food on board? Read more

There are no restrictions under the DGCA. However, we kindly request that passengers in the same row do not take off their masks at the same time. We also request that passengers be considerate of others with regard to wearing their masks.

Is medication permitted on board? Read more

As long as the medication is in compliance with the list of drugs and medical supplies allowed on board with the passenger, medication can be taken into the aircraft.

Can I bring an electronical device onboard? (laptop, camera, video camera) Read more

If the device and weight do not exceed 40x30x15 cm and 4 kg, it can be taken on board during the pandemic.

Can I bring a musical instrument onboard? Read more

If the musical instrument and weight do not exceed 40x30x15 cm and 4 kg, it can be taken on board during the pandemic.

Are wheelchairs disinfected during the pandemic? Read more

Our business partners providing wheelchair service disinfect the equipment after each use.

If a passenger has symptoms such as fever and cough, can they change their ticket? Read more

If passengers are not permitted to board the flight because they exhibit symptoms of the virus, the existing rules are applied. A change or refund based on the passenger's statement is not possible but we kindly advise you to review our Flexible Changing Rights page for more information.

BOARDING

How has the boarding process changed during Covid-19? Read more

Boarding standards have been redefined. Passenger boarding will take place in groups, according to seat row starting from the back of the cabin, to maintain physical distance. At Istanbul Airport, boarding pass scanner devices are available, so that passengers can scan their own boarding passes.

How many passengers are permitted in the shuttles? Read more

Aircraft boarding is conducted via passenger boarding bridges whenever possible. Social distancing rules and procedures are in effect for the apron shuttles, which are used in exceptional cases.

Are shuttles used for transfer to open parking positions during the pandemic disinfected? Read more

Boardings will be carried out via passenger boarding bridges as much as possible and necessary physical distancing measures are taken in apron buses, which will be used in exceptional cases.

The apron shuttles are disinfected daily and ventilated after each use.

INSIDE THE AIRCRAFT

Are masks available at all flights during the pandemic? Read more

It is mandatory to wear a mask when entering the terminal. During the flight, the hygiene specialists distribute a hygiene kit that includes a mask and disinfectant wipes.

How does the aircraft ventilation system work? Read more

During the flight, the air inside the cabin is constantly cleaned with hospital-grade High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter (HEPA) systems. With this filtering system, the air in the cabin is renewed every three minutes with hospital-standard HEPA filter systems. This applies to all our aircraft. HEPA filters (High Efficiency Particulate Air Filter) are a filtering system that can remove 99.97% of airborne particles (up to 0.3 microns) from the air. The systems in our aircraft transfer the fresh air from the cabin ceiling to the cabin, pull it from the bottom section, and send it to the HEPA filters and outside. Thus, the air inside the cabin does not circulate horizontally between the seats.

Do cabin crew undergo health checks? Read more

Cabin crews’ temperatures are measured before each flight, and masks and glasses, gloves and personal protective equipment are provided, depending on the flight status, for their use during flights.

If a passenger begins to show symptoms of the virus during the flight, what happens? Read more

If passengers show symptoms of the virus during the flight, they and their traveling companions are moved to reserved isolation seats.

Does the cabin crew use protective equipment during the flight? Read more

Cabin crews are provided with masks, gloves, and personal protective equipment according to flight status for use in flights. Cabin crews change their surgical masks every four hours.

Are there hygiene specialists in each aircraft? Read more

There are hygiene specialists in our aircraft. The hygiene specialist cabin crews are responsible for the implementation of all hygiene and social distance measures inside the cabin and for the delivery of hygiene and health products to the passengers.

How are planes disinfected during the pandemic? Read more

After each flight, all contact points in our aircraft including tray tables, armrests, belts, screens, controllers, overhead bins, air vents, reading lamps, side panels, windows, lavatories, partitions, magazine racks, decorative panels and cabinets are thoroughly disinfected by special teams. Our aircraft are disinfected once again by a two-stage special disinfection procedure upon their arrival at our hub, and made ready for their next flight.

How is the cleaning and hygiene in the aircraft carried out during the pandemic? Read more

In the narrow body aircraft, one cabin crew works as a hygiene specialist. In the wide body aircraft, two cabin crew work as hygiene specialists. The hygiene specialist cabin crews are responsible for the implementation of all hygiene and social distance measures inside the cabin. During the flight, the toilets are disinfected by hygiene specialists every hour or after the use of five passengers and routine cleaning checks are carried out every 30 minutes.

Will seating be arranged according to social distance guidelines? Read more

During the pandemic, the seats and seating arrangements on our aircraft will not change.

Is it possible to change seats? Read more

If an incident occurs, the cabin crews will take the necessary actions depending on the situation. For this reason, we cannot change the seats as part of the hygiene measures we take.

Why are passengers seated side-by-side on flights during the pandemic? Read more

It has been determined that the risk of in-flight contamination is low due to factors such as the flow direction of the in-flight ventilation systems, the HEPA filters used in ventilation systems, the use of masks for all our passengers, and the backrests that form a physical barrier. The verticalness of HEPA filters prevents possible particle spread. For this reason, national and international authorities do not consider an empty seat an imperative. Also, considering operational flight costs, leaving the middle seat empty will increase ticket prices. However, depending on availability, care is taken to ensure that passengers do not sit side-by-side.

IN-FLIGHT PRODUCTS

Will the in-flight entertainment system be available during flights to all destinations during the pandemic? Read more

Yes, the in-flight entertainment system will be available for both domestic and international flights.

Are the screens and remotes of the in-flight entertainment system disinfected during the pandemic? Read more

The screens and remotes are sanitized with special disinfectants and color-coded microfiber cloths.

Is there information about COVID-19 available on the in-flight entertainment system during the pandemic? Read more

Informational videos about the COVID-19 pandemic, prepared in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, are available. The video content includes general information about the virus, how the virus spreads, its symptoms and what to do if these symptoms occur, virus protection methods, travel history, and how to most effectively wash hands.

Are there products for passenger hygiene on the aircraft during the pandemic? Read more

Hygiene kits are offered to all passengers to support the personal hygiene.

Products in the hygiene set include:

  • Mask and antiseptic wipes for flights lasting up to 4 hours
  • Mask, antiseptic wipes, and disinfectant products are included on long-haul flights lasting more than 4 hours.

Is there a dedicated rubbish bin on the board for disposing of masks, gloves, and other contaminated materials during the pandemic? Read more

The bag in the front seat pocket can be used for all waste.

Are pillows and blankets available during the flight during the pandemic? Read more

The pillow service is currently suspended for health reasons. Blankets are available on flights of more than 4 hours.

Are the textile products, such as blankets, cleaned during the pandemic? Read more

All textile products on the aircraft are washed at professional facilities in high temperatures with allergen-free special chemicals provided by the authorities, and packed by automatic packaging machines.

Are newspapers/magazines available on the aircraft during the pandemic? If not, is there an alternative application? Read more

Products that are available for multiple use, including newspapers and magazines, have been temporarily removed to prevent them being contaminated by an infected person. The online Press Reader newspaper application is available.

Are headphones available on the aircraft during the pandemic? Read more

Disposable headphones are available on all international flights.

Are there disinfectants in the aircraft lavatories during the pandemic? Read more

All lavatories have special hand sanitizers.

Will the safety cards be disposable? Read more

Safety cards cannot be removed from the aircraft for operational reasons. They are made from special PVC-produced raw materials and, therefore, are not disposable. Like other contact points, they are also disinfected.

Will hot towel service be available in Business Class? Read more

Hot towel service is not available at this time.

Will there be slippers offered on long flights? Read more

On long-haul flights lasting more than 8 hours, slippers will continue to be available in Business class.

CATERING

Will there be catering during the flight during the pandemic? Read more

Water will be served on flights up to 2 hours. On flights lasting more than 2 hours, the catering service is provided in a box/package.

Why has the catering concept changed during the pandemic? Read more

The new catering concept has been implemented to protect the health of passengers and crews at the maximum level and to minimize contact between cabin crew and passengers.

How is the catering produced during the pandemic? Read more

Catering is produced in hygienic kitchens in accordance with protocols and criteria published by the Ministry of Health.

Why are only cold meals served onboard during the pandemic? Read more

To minimize contact between cabin crew and meals, and to offer a healthier journey, a cold catering service is currently in effect.

Why has the inflight beverage service been simplified? Read more

Among the highest contact points during the flight is the catering service, when passengers are asked for their food and beverage preferences. In this process, to minimize contact between cabin crew and passengers during the catering service, a single-pack beverage service with simplified options is currently in effect.

May I eat and drink at the same time with the passengers in the same row? Read more

In accordance with the recommendation of the Ministry of Health Science Board, passengers sitting in the same row should not remove their masks simultaneously. Therefore, we kindly request our passengers not to eat and drink at the same time with the passengers in the same row.

How is food served on onboard during the pandemic? Read more

Food and beverages are served in personalized packages to passengers, with minimum contact by cabin crew.

Are disposable forks, knives and glasses offered on flights? Read more

All the materials used for catering are single-use and distributed by catering box or package.

Will there be tea and coffee service on flights? Read more

Hot drinks, such as tea and coffee, are not offered at this time.

Does alcohol service continue on flights? Read more

Alcohol is not served in Economy Class at this time.

Will alcohol be served on flights with single-use packages or from a bottle? Read more

Soft drinks and alcohol are served as single-packaged products at this time.

Will there be special drinks available for Business Class? Read more

The welcome drink (lemonade, orange juice, etc.) offered to Business Class passengers is temporarily suspended during the pandemic as part of the coronavirus measures.

Will the menu card presentation continue on flights? Read more

To minimize contact between cabin crew and passengers, menu card distribution has been suspended during the pandemic.

Will soft drinks be served on flights with single-use packages or from a bottle? Read more

Soft drinks are served as single-packaged products at this time.

Can a special meal request be made before the flight? Read more

To minimize contact between cabin crew and passengers during the catering service, hot meals are temporarily suspended and a uniform catering model has been introduced. For this reason, special food requests cannot be met during the pandemic. This applies to both Economy and Business Class passengers.

Will it be possible to select food in Business Class? Read more

What is included in the catering? Read more

The content of the box concept for Business Class passengers on international flights includes a sandwich, three bowls (appetizer, dessert, salad), water and beverages. DISEMBARKING

How is the disembarkation process during the pandemic? Read more

Disembarking is conducted 10 rows at a time, following announcements by the cabin crew. There is a two-minute waiting period between disembarking passenger groups.

Will door delivery baggage (stroller, wheelchair) continue to be delivered in the same way during arrival? Read more

To avoid traffic in the jetways, such items are delivered to the passenger via the baggage claim.

BAGGAGE CLAIM

Has the baggage claim process changed during the pandemic? Read more

At Istanbul Airport, distance markers have been placed on floors around the baggage claim conveyer belts to reduce physical contact.

Is baggage disinfected prior to placement on the baggage delivery belt? Read more

The X-ray devices and baskets are disinfected regularly by IGA. However, there is no application at this time during the baggage delivery.

FLIGHT CANCELLATIONS

Why are flights canceled? Read more

As Turkish Airlines, our first priority is to transport our valued passengers to their loved ones and their destinations safely. Therefore, the cancellation of our flights is as upsetting for us as it is for our passengers. In accordance with the decision of the General Directorate of Civil Aviation, refunds for domestic flights can be made 60 days after the restart of flight operations. All refunds within this scope will be made as of August.

Are all citizens residing in Germany exempt from quarantine if they have a negative result for a Covid-19 test? If so, should this test be performed in Germany or in Turkey? Read more

All passengers residing in Germany are exempted from quarantine if they can provide a negative test result. It is possible to take the test in both Germany and Turkey. Either way, you must provide information to your health department (Gesundheitsamt) in Germany.

What is the validity period of the test in Turkey for citizens residing in Germany? Can the test also be performed in Germany? Read more

If the test is taken in Turkey, the time for reporting the test result to Germany should not exceed 48 hours (from the time of the test in Turkey). The test can also be taken in Germany.
