REVISION ON SUSPENSION OF CARRYING THE UNACCOMPANIED MINOR (UM) DURING COVID-19 PERIOD Learn more

With the announcement dated 19.06.2020 and numbered 47, it was informed that within the scope of Covid-19 measures, unaccompanied minor (UM) passenger acceptance application was temporarily suspended on all domestic and international flights. 

According to the developments in the pandemic period, it is decided to put the application into practice gradually. 

In this context, as of 11.07.2020, the unaccompanied minor (UM) passenger acceptance application will be started to be valid only on all domestic flights (domestic to domestic) and all domestic to international and international to domestic direct flights.

However, UM passengers will not be accepted until a second announcement on the transfer flights; (domestic to international), (international to domestic) and (international to international).

Passengers who will enter Turkey with our international flights as of June 01, 2021 (excluding transfer passengers and passengers under the age of 6) must complete the documents before their flights and have their PCR tests or vaccine certifications ready. Before you travel to England 

Before you travel to England you must: 

You must do these things whether you are fully vaccinated or not. 

Rules if you’re fully vaccinated 

If you’re coming to England from an amber list country and have been fully vaccinated with a vaccine approved by the bodies listed in this guide you

  • must take a COVID-19 pre-departure test 
  • must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 after you arrive in England – arrival day is day 0 
  • do not have to quarantine 

Approved vaccines 

You must have been fully vaccinated under one of the following programmes: 

  • UK vaccination programme, approved by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) 
  • UK vaccine programme overseas, approved by the MHRA 
  • an approved vaccination programme in Europe or the USA – not all are recognised in England 

Recognised vaccines for Europe 

You must have been fully vaccinated in: 

  • an EU country 
  • Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican City 

If you were vaccinated in a different European country it will not be recognised in England. 

The vaccine must have been authorised by: 

  • the European Medicines Agency (EMA) 
  • Swissmedic for Switzerland 

Rules if you are not fully vaccinated 

If you’re coming to England from an amber list country and are not fully vaccinated with an authorised vaccine you must

  • quarantine on arrival at home or in the place you’re staying 
  • take a day 2 test after you arrive in England – on or before day 2 
  • take a day 8 test after you arrive in England – on or after day 8 

The day you arrive is day 0. 

If your day 2 test is positive you do not have to take the day 8 test. 

Rules for children and young people 

The rules for children depend on age and country of residency. 

Children resident in the UK, British Overseas Territories, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, USA or a recognised European country 

The recognised European countries are the EU countries, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland or the Vatican City. 

Children of all ages who are resident in these countries or territories do not have to quarantine. 

If they are aged 4 and under they do not have to take any COVID-19 travel tests. 

11 to 17 year olds must take a: 

  • VID-19 pre-departure test before travelling to England 
  • day 2 test on or before day 2 in England – arrival day is day 0 

5 to 10 year olds: 

  • do not have to take a pre-departure test 
  • must take a day 2 test on or before day 2 – arrival day is day 0 

Children resident in other countries 

Children aged 5 to 17 who are resident in any other country must: 

  • take a COVID-19 pre-departure test before travelling to England 
  • take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 in England – arrival day is day 0 
  • take a COVID-19 test on or after day 8 in England – arrival day is day 0 
  • quarantine at home or in the place they’re staying for 10 days, or for the duration of their stay if it’s less than 10 days 

Children aged 4 or under from these other countries do not have to take travel tests. 

UK vaccine programme overseas 

The UK vaccine programme overseas applies to: 

  • residents of the British Overseas Territories, Channel Islands and Isle of Man 
  • crown servants, UK government civilian and military staff and UK government contractors posted or based overseas 

How to quarantine 

If you must quarantine when you arrive in England, you must travel directly to the place you’re staying. 

You must not leave until 10 days have passed. 

The quarantine period is continuous from the day you arrive in England, and lasts for the next 10 full days after the day you arrived until 11:59pm on day 10. This period is necessary because it can take up to 10 days for COVID-19 symptoms to appear. 

To count the days: 

  • the day you arrive in England is day 0 
  • the day after you arrive is day 1, and so on 
    • If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days 
    • If you’re travelling to England for less than 10 days, you will need to quarantine for the whole of your stay. 
    • You must still book your day 2 and day 8 travel tests, even if you will no longer be in England on the dates of the tests. 
    • You only need to take the tests if you’re still in the country on those dates. 
    • Red list rules 
    • What you must do if you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the 10 days before you arrive in England. 
    • You must follow these rules even if you have been fully vaccinated. 
    • If you have been in a country or territory on the red list in the last 10 days you will only be allowed to enter the UK if you are a British or Irish National, or you have residence rights in the UK.

For passengers with tickets issued for scheduled domestic and international flights between June 11, 2020 and October 31, 2021 who were/will be unable to board due to COVID-19 Learn more 

Passengers who were unable to board the scheduled Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet flights between June 11, 2020 and October 31, 2021 because they were not accepted by the destination country and/or have a positive COVID-19 test result and/or unable to board their flights because of the PCR test applied for flights arriving to Turkey, may change their ticket, request a refund, change their ticket to an open ticket, or extend the validity of their ticket.

If the ticket is issued on or before October 31, 2021:

  • The ticket is issued for a scheduled domestic and international Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet flight (including flights departing Turkey and arriving TRNC) departing Turkey between June 11 and October 31, 2021 (included) but the passenger is not accepted by the destination country and/or is COVID-19 positive/first contact.
  • The passenger departs Turkey, has a connecting international flight and is prevented from flying due to country-specific restrictions or tests requested by the country authorities
  • The passenger is permitted to board the flight even though the obligation to take a PCR test or other tests specified by the authorities of the first point of departure are not fulfilled and the results are not submitted or if the PCR test expired due to stopover, delay and similar reasons and/or if the passenger is not permitted to board the connecting flights at Istanbul Airport (IST), Sabiha Gokcen Airport (SAW) and Ankara Esenboga Airport (ESB) transfer points due to country-specifif restrictions (including TRNC flights)
  • The passenger has a ticket issued before December 28, 2020 for flights to Turkey between December 30, 2020 and October 31, 2021 but ‘s not permitted to board the flight due to the obligation to submit a PCR test result in Turkey.
  • The passenger has a ticket issued for flights and transit flights from/to Turkey for Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet domestic and international flights (inc. flights to TRNC) between January 14, 2021 (included) and October 31, 2021 (included) but is not able to travel due to vaccination planned by the Ministry of Health and the passenger can submit a proof for this

Ticket change, changing a ticket to an open ticket and refund transactions can be completed once in accordance with the terms and conditions of the flight and regardless of the fare rules.

Change requests

You can change tickets for Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet flights until July 31, 2021 without a fee, provided that your destination is in the same flight zone and your flight is in the same cabin.

  • For tickets departing from abroad that will be processed at the transfer point: If you perform your transaction at the ticket sales offices in Ankara Airport (ESB), Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW), you can make a one-time free change for the same route and cabin for a later date.
  • For tickets departing from any point in Turkey, issued as connecting flights to abroad, that will be processed at the transfer point due to restrictions on travel: If you perform a transaction at the ticket sales offices in Ankara Airport (ESB), Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW), you can make a one-time free change for the same route and cabin for a later date.
  • The interline flight tickets can be changed without paying an additional fee provided that they are in the same fare class. Fare differences, if applicable, are collected separately. If the interline flights are changed to Turkish Airlines or AnadoluJet flights, a change fee shall not be applied.
  • The passenger has a ticket issued for flights and transit flights from/to Turkey for Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet domestic and international flights (inc. flights to TRNC) between January 14, 2021 (included) and October 31, 2021 (included) but is not able to travel due to vaccination planned by the Ministry of Health and the passenger can submit a proof for this, the change can be completed regardless of the fare rules.

Refund Requests

You can obtain your refund without paying a fee for individual and group tickets on Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet flights.

  • Interline flights are included. 
  • To benefit from your refund right, you must be able to document the restriction on travel.
  • Passengers with tickets issued for flights between December 30, 2020 and October 31, 2021 but are not permitted to board the flights are not required to submit a document.
  • Passengers who made an international departure but were not accepted on the connecting flight at the transfer points of Ankara Airport (ESB), Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW), due to the obligation to submit the PCR test or other tests determined by the national authorities: if you failed to submit such tests on time and/or due to country restrictions, you are not entitled to a return.
  • Passengers who made an international departure from Turkey and arriving abroad (including TRNC flights) but are not accepted to the connecting flight at the transfer points of Ankara Airport (ESB), Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) due to the obligation to submit the PCR test or other tests determined by the country authorities: if you failed to submit such tests on time and/or due to country restrictions, you are not entitled to a return.
  • If passengers of group reservations who cannot travel due to the restrictions specified by countries or being COVID-19 positive, posing a risk or has been in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have a ticket issued for flights from Turkey for domestic and international flights (for Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet) for January 14, 2021 (included) and later but are not able to travel due to vaccination planned by the Ministry of Health, the change can be completed regardless of the fare rules. These passengers do not have the right to refund.

Refund options

  • You can create a voucher worth 15% more than the ticket price.
  • You can top-up your Miles&Smiles account 100 Miles for every EUR 1 of the ticket price.

Change-to-Open Ticket

You can change your ticket to an open ticket without paying an additional fee.

Extension of the ticket period

You can extend the validity of your ticket until July 31, 2021, without paying an additional fee.

You can perform your ticket change/return transactions by applying to Turkish Airlines sales offices with a document showing the situation that prevents your travel or you can reach us feedback form. Passengers with tickets issued for flights between December 30, 2020 and October 31, 2021 but are not permitted to board the flights are not required to submit a document. You can perform your change-to-open ticket transactions through Turkish Airlines sales offices, the call center, and the agencies from which the ticket was purchased.

Additional rights for passengers with tickets issued between March 21, 2020 and December 31, 2021 (included) Learn more

For all Turkish Airlines and AnadoluJet tickets issued or to be issued between March 21, 2020 and December 31, 2021 (included), passengers may change their reservation, change the route or change their ticket to an open ticket under the conditions written below, provided that their flights are cancelled before the first scheduled flight time of the original ticket. (It is not valid for flights arriving to / departing from China.)

Changing of group reservations at international sales points are performed if the tickets are paid from March 21, 2020 or will be paid until December 31, 2021 (inclusive), the warranty for MCO are received or will be received. The ticket changes are performed within the scope of the current fare rules regardless of the existing penalty fees. 

Changing of group reservations at domestic sales points (including TRNC) are performed if the tickets are paid from March 21, 2020 or will be paid until December 31, 2021 (inclusive), the warranty for MCO are received or will be received. The ticket changes are performed within the scope of the current fare rules regardless of the existing penalty fees provided that the transaction is performed minimum 7 (seven) days before the first flight listed in the PNR. In other cases, the transactions are performed in accordance with the regional EMD/MCO regulations. The same fare price is not guaranteed for the new travel date.

Change requests

Other fare differences that may arise from the change (transaction fee, exchange differences, class, differences arising from date and destination changes, tax differences) are collected from the passenger. For partially flown tickets, the ticket change should be for the same IATA destination.

You can change your ticket to an open ticket without paying an additional fee provided that your flight is cancelled before the scheduled flight time. Fare differences that may arise from the change (transaction fee, exchange differences, class, differences arising from date and destination changes, tax differences) are collected from the passenger.

Updates to Turkish Airlines Lounge services Learn more

Due to New Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have implemented changes in our Turkish Airlines Lounge services.

Turkish Airlines Lounge Miles&Smiles at Istanbul Airport International Terminal, Turkish Airlines Lounge Domestic at Istanbul Airport Domestic Terminal, Turkish Airlines Lounge Domestic at Ankara Esenboga Airport Domestic Terminal and Turkish Airlines Lounge Washington D.C. at Washington D.C. Dulles International Airport are providing services for our passengers, following the implementation of additional hygiene measures.

Turkish Airlines Lounges in Antalya and Izmir Airports are providing services as of April 1 2021, and Turkish Airlines Lounge in Bodrum is providing service as of April 5, 2021.

Other lounges will remain temporarily closed.
