At Turkish Airlines, we take into account all the baggage needs of our passengers, and would like to remind you that different baggage regulations are applied on United States/Canada flights. If you are traveling to/from these destinations, we recommend you study the information in this section in order to avoid any problems with baggage during your journey.

Miles&Smiles Elite and Elite Plus members are entitled to take 1 additional piece of baggage with a maximum length of 110 cm on flights with Turkish Airlines and other Star Alliance member airlines. We should also add that when traveling with other airlines that are part of the Star Alliance scheme, the Elite card is equivalent to Star Alliance Gold level. On Turkish Airlines flights which include a stopover

You can see excess baggage fees per piece of baggage for flights departing from or arriving in the United States of America/Canada which include a stopover, and flights operated by Turkish Airlines direct from Turkey in the table below. 

Excess baggage fees for flights which include a stopover are calculated in the following way: The excess baggage fee for carriage to Turkey (1 piece of excess baggage on Turkey - USA/Canada* flights) + the total indicated in the table below for the flight from Turkey after a stopover 

*Stopover: A waiting time of 24 hours or more between two flights on a journey which includes a connecting flight.

Regarding baggage carried under the baggage piece concept, for destinations where the baggage weight limit for passengers in Economy Class is 23 kg, a fee of USD 80 / 110 CAD will be applied for pieces weighing 23-32 kg. 

The excess baggage fees per piece indicated above for Economy Class and Business Class are applicable to single pieces of baggage which weigh 23 kg at most. If a passenger's excess baggage is between 23-32 kg a fee of USD 80 / 110 CAD will be charged in addition to the fee indicated above.

On codeshare flights which do not include a stopover

For flights where Turkish Airlines is the most significant carrier (MSC) and codeshare flights which do not make direct flights in the United States of America/Canada, you can see the excess baggage fee payable per piece in the table below. In accordance with IATA (International Air Transport Association) rules, the MSC is the airline which covers the longest portion of a journey. The baggage rules of the MSC apply on codeshare flights. On codeshare flights where other partner airlines are the MSC, the excess baggage fees of that airline will apply.

For flights where Turkish Airlines is the most significant carrier (MSC), and codeshare flights which include a stopover, and which do not make direct flights in the United States of America/Canada, you can see the excess baggage fee payable per piece in the table below. Passengers traveling in Economy Class to airports with a checked baggage limit of 23 kg will be required to pay an 80 USD / 110 CAD excess baggage charge for each piece of luggage weighing 23–32 kg. 

The baggage piece concept will apply to flights to and from Japan as of July 01, 2017.

Baggage procedures on flights with more than one airline departing from/arriving in the USA and Canada

On flights with more than one carrier (interline) departing from/arriving in the USA, US DOT (US Department of Transportation) policies apply 

On flights with more than one carrier (interline) departing from/arriving in Canada, CTA (Canada Transportation Agency) policies apply.

Miles&Smiles members are afforded extra baggage allowance on United States/Canada flights. Miles&Smiles Elite and Elite Plus members are entitled to take 1 additional bag with a maximum length of 110 cm on flights with Turkish Airlines and other Star Alliance member airlines. We should also add that when traveling with other airlines that are part of the Star Alliance scheme, the Elite Card is equivalent to Star Alliance Gold Level.
