Istanbul not only gathers together Asia and Europe, but also serves as a transit point for a large number of travelers worldwide. You may also use Istanbul as a transit point for various flights taking off from Saint Petersburg and continue your journey with another Turkish Airlines flight after arriving Istanbul.
Architecturally designed and built in 1703 as the Russia’s window to Europe, Saint Petersburg has lived through many experiences until now, including wars and revolutions. Saint Petersburg Pulkovo Airport (LED), which may be reached by using one of those subway stations is the sole airport in the city and serves as a point of departure for Turkish Airlines flights to Istanbul.
Located in the southern part and 14 kilometers from the center, Saint Petersburg Pulkovo Airport (LED) offers a couple of alternatives in transportation. You may get on the buses 39 and 39A, operating in every ten minutes from Moskovskaya subway station and reach the airport within nearly 35 minutes. Note that, it is possible to reach at first Moskovskaya from many spots in the city and then transfer here to the buses to get to the airport in a swift and economic way. You may also take cabs which are at your service anywhere in city and reach Saint Petersburg Pulkovo Airport (LED). Although providing a private and comfortable transport, cabs would be a much more expensive option than the airport buses.
This enchanting city which captivates the tourists by its historic heritages and authentic beauties, is utterly fascinating by its gastro culture as well, and hosts numerous must-see stops to explore. Such that, it will probably take at least three days to discover entirely only the Historical Peninsula! Museums, parks and gardens, mosques, churches and bridges on the European side can only be seen with a fervent, fun and yet an exhausting route. Anatolian side, on the other hand, hosts many spots just like the European side: A journey from Big Selimiye Mosque in Usküdar to the coppices around Beylerbeyi Palace and Cengelköy offering the colors of local life, is not only for the tourists; also the inhabitants of this beautiful city sometimes take a walk here to breath in the fresh air far from the crowd…
Hosting a wide range of gems both in the European and the Anatolian side, Istanbul has two airports located on each sides: Istanbul Airport (IST) and Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW). Turkish Airlines passengers with a flight ticket from Saint Petersburg to Istanbul have a chance to select their arrival point among the two airports serving in the city.
Istanbul Airport (IST) is located on the European side, between Tayakadın, a neighborhood on the Black Sea coast, and Akpınar villages. You can reach the city from Istanbul Airport by both TEM and E5 roads. For those without a vehicle there are many ways that you can reach the airport. A taxi to the city center costs around 100-110 TL. You can also reach many places in the city, such as: Taksim, Yenikapı, Beşiktaş, Kadıköy and Kozyatağı, almost any hour of the day with IETT buses or Havaist services. Located on the Anatolian side, Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW) offers various alternatives for reaching the center, including the municipal buses, airport shuttles or cabs.
Airport shuttles serve almost at all hours to Yenisahra, Kadıköy and Taksim directions. You may reach Kadıköy via these shuttles within nearly 40 minutes; shuttles get to Taksim within 60 minutes when there is no traffic.
Note that there is no subway line directly connected to Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW). You may therefore get on the bus KM22 from the airport and reach Kartal subway station, transfer here to the subway to Kadıköy to reach any destination in the city. Moreover, you may also get to Kadıköy by the buses numbered E-11 and SG-1, to 4th Levent by the bus numbered E-3 and to Taksim by the bus numbered SG-2.
In addition to all these, you may reach the center also by the cabs available 7/24 or by renting a car from the car rental offices operating in the airport.
