The History of Father's Day
The idea of a special day for our fathers was first voiced by Sonora Smart Dodd
who lived in the United States. Dodd’s father raised her and five siblings all by himself when they lost their mother. Dodd wanted to honor fathers just like mothers, and selected her father’s birthday, June 5, for this special day. Her efforts later on resulted in the universal celebration of Father’s Day on the third Sunday of every June.
