In 2020 we congratulate each other while social distancing!

On the day of the Ramadan feast, families traditionally gather at the homes of parents and grandparents and kiss the hands of older relatives and the eyes of small children. This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are establishing a new tradition: meeting online and kissing the hands of our elders on the screen.

A holiday that brings peace

Ramadan, “sultan” of eleven months, is one of the most significant holidays in Islam. During this holy month, Muslims abstain from eating or drinking from sunrise to sunset. The month ends with the Ramadan feast, also known as Eid or Seker Bayram – the Sugar Holiday. Muslims visit loved ones and enjoy a relaxed day. The happiness generated during the holiday is shared worldwide through messages.

The importance of Ramadan feast

This holy month, includes Laylat al-Qadr, also known as Night of Decree/Power, which is the night when the first verses Quran were first sent down from Heaven to the world, -is considered to be a month of peace and fertility. The holiday consolidates unity and solidarity, brings people together with their loved ones, and leads to peace. During Ramadan and on other holidays, financial aid to those in need also increases.

When is Ramadan celebrated?

This year, the Ramadan feast begins on Sunday, May 24, 2020 and ends on Tuesday, May 26. We wish everyone good health and happy holidays at this time. While we are not able to be together, we are together in our hearts.
