Tips for traveling to Thailand

  • In order to enter the country, your passport must have at least six months’ validity from the day you depart Thailand.
  • The best time to visit Thailand is usually between November and February, when the country is cooler. Otherwise, any period outside of August and September, when the monsoon rains are intense, is usually pleasant, though hot.
  • If you’ll be visiting Thailand during the rainy season, pack accordingly and bring rain gear. Also, please note that severe weather conditions and natural disasters such as floods may disrupt some basic services.
  • Bangkok, the capital of the country, is famous for its magnificent temples, luxe shopping centers, and entertainment life.
  • Chiang Mai is the biggest city after the capital, with many sites worth exploring, from religious artworks to huge green areas. For a sea-sun-sand vacation, Phuket, notable for its turquoise waters and sandy beaches, is the right address.
  • Type A, B, C, O sockets are used in Thailand. Type O sockets are compatible with the type C sockets used in Türkiye. You can purchase a socket adapter for A and B socket types before traveling.
  • Thailand has well-developed national and local public transportation systems. For short distances in cities, three-wheeled “tuk-tuks” (auto rickshaws/open vehicle) are common, as are motorcycle taxis. There’s a robust intercity bus and train network as well. In Bangkok, the subway and elevated light rail are popular modes of transportation. Taxis are available in most places.
  • It is forbidden to bring e-cigarettes into Thailand. In addition, the use of cigarettes and tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes, is banned on many beaches in tourist areas such as Koh Samui, Pattaya, Phuket, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chon Buri, and Songkhla.
  • The official language of Thailand is Thai, but English, Chinese, and Malay are also widely spoken.
  • The currency of the country is the Thai baht (THB). Credit cards are accepted in most places, but it may be necessary to carry a small amount of cash.
