The city center suffered significant damage in the earthquakes and aftershocks between 2010 and 2012, but a quick restoration turned the ruins into a brand new, lively city. You can visit much of Christchurch in such a short time on foot or by bike.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:

You can travel from the airport using the Purple Line bus service that passes through the city center. You can also use the number 29 bus service, which takes about 25 minutes to reach the city center. The distance between the airport and the city center is 11 km. You can buy tickets on the bus and it costs 8 New Zealand dollars for a one-way trip or 14 dollars for a round trip.
