Today's San Francisco was born out of the 19th century gold rush, and it quickly grew into one of the biggest cities in California. It is now one of the most dynamic cities in the country, and a favorite with tourists. Just some of the things you can do on your visit include traveling the hilly streets by cable car, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge, and trying some of the fantastic seafood at Fisherman's Wharf. There are also some excellent museums too see like the famous Alcatraz Island prison, which housed notorious criminals like Al Capone.
