EXCESS BAGGAGE RULES

Excess baggage

Under the baggage piece concept, each piece of baggage will be judged as to whether it conforms to the weight and size limits defined for the flight destination.

An excess baggage fee will be charged for baggage which exceeds the defined weight and size limits.

An excess baggage fee will be charged if the total weight allowance for you route is exceeded, or if the baggage piece limit is exceeded.

On journeys where the free baggage allowance limit for each piece is 23 kg, an overweight baggage fee can be paid and the limit of each piece can be increased to 32 kg.

In Economy and Business Class the additional excess baggage fee applies to baggage weighing 23 kg. For example, a Business Class passenger with a free baggage allowance of 2x32 kg may pay the fee for 1 additional piece and carry an additional piece of baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg. For an additional piece of baggage weighing 23-32 kg, the additional excess baggage fee and overweight fee will be charged together.

Most Significant Carrier

On journeys which include another airline, the free baggage allowance rules and excess baggage fees of the most significant carrier (MSC) will apply. The MSC is the airline which covers the most significant and/or the longest leg of the journey. If Turkish Airlines is the MSC on your journey, Turkish Airlines' free baggage allowance rules and excess baggage fees will apply. If the MSC is another airline, that airline's baggage rules will apply.

On interline flights arriving in/departing from the USA, MSCs may vary within the scope of the US Department of Transportation regulations.

Please check your ticket before traveling and ensure that your free baggage allowance has been indicated. If you wish to travel with more baggage than the allowance printed on your ticket, please see the excess baggage fees below.
