Introducing Nakhchivan


Home predominantly to Azerbaijani Turks, Nakhchivan was ruled by the Armenians during the Stalin period. Later, in 1932, Nakhchivan formed land borders with Turkey following a land swap with Iran. The Hope Bridge, built in 1992, was Nakhchivan’s only connection to the outer world during the years of the blockade. The Nakhchivan locals believe that Noah’s Ark came ashore in Nakhchivan, which is why the name of the city bears a resemblance to “Noah.”Travelers believe that the city is named after its natural beauty.
