Dear Passengers, 

ESAN dogs will be transported all flights booked before 1 July 2018. From 01 July 2018 date on, our ESAN dogs will only be accepted on IST-USA-IST flights. 

SERVICE ANIMALS 

We only accept dogs as service animals in our aircraft. 

Please be informed that our procedures will change about acceptance of ESAN and SVAN dogs. 

We will accept service dogs only for İstanbul- USA Stations and USA stations-İstanbul flights in accordance with US D.O.T regulations. 

Passengers traveling with an assistant dog due to physical or psychological disability should provide document and should obtain a booking confirmation at least 48 hours before departure. 

ESAN 

We accept ESAN dogs free of charge only for flights from Istanbul to US Stations or from USA stations to İstanbul. In connecting flights before and after these routes your dog will be transported for a fee in the cage/carrier/kennel in the passenger cabin or cargo area. Related fee for PETC and/or AVIH will be charged at the initial departure point. Passengers who has a connection flight absolutely need to carry empty cages which should have appropriate measurements. Cage/carrier/kennel will be free of charge. 

In order to be able to travel with ESAN dogs, requirements are below: 

  1. Passengers should provide current documentation (i.e no older than one year from the date of the passenger’s scheduled initial flight.) on a letterhead of a licensed mental health professional (eg. Psychiatrist, psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, including a medical doctor specifically treating the passenger’s mental or emotional disability) stating the following; 
    • the passenger has a mental or emotional disability recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders- Fourth and or Fifth Edition (DSM IV/ DSM V); 
    • The passenger needs the emotional support or psychiatric service animal as an accommodation for air travel and/or for activity at the passenger’s destination; 
    • The individual providing the assessment is a licensed mental health professional, and the passenger is under his/her care and; 
    • The date and type of the mental health professional’s license and the state or other jurisdiction in which it was issued. 
    • The report must be in English or translated into English. 
  2. On a flight segment scheduled to take 8 hours or more, as a condition of permitting a service animal to travel in the cabin, we require passenger using the service animal to provide documentation that the animal will not need to relieve itself or that the animal can relieve itself in a way that does not create a health or sanitation issue on the flight. 

The acceptable documents; 

  • A written statement from a veterinarian, 
  • A signed statement from the passenger containing the procedures that passenger will be employing to prevent the dog from having to relieve itself. 
  • A signed statement with the photographs or other illustrations of your dog’s ability to relieve itself without posing a health or sanitation problem. 
  • In case of accidental relief of the dog, the contaminated area should be cleaned (please have bags, napkins, wipes etc. with you) by the owner/handler. 

Our passengers who travel with ESAN dogs should have valid vaccination records of the dog, identification card, and documents required by the country’s they are planning to visit. In case of absence of necessary documents, ESAN may not be accepted to flight. 

If ESAN dog behaves aggressive during check-in and / or boarding, if it is not well-maintained and clean, or too heavy and too big, or if the dog causes a safety hazard and/or in case if the crew informs that the dog might cause service interruption, ESAN may not be accepted in the cabin but as an AVIH depending on cargo compartment conditions. 

All possible damages during travel are under the passenger responsibility. 

ESAN dogs must be clean and must be seated in front of your feet during the flight. Also, the extension of your dog's leash or harness should be attached to your belt throughout the flight. It is strictly forbidden for ESAN dogs to sit on passenger seats. When traveling with ESAN dogs, you should definitely keep a mouthpiece/muzzle, in case of barking, threading, etc. as a precaution. 

We will take empty cage(s) for ESAN during check-in procedures in US Stations for our passengers who come from US Stations and has connection flight beyond İstanbul. We will hand over your dog's cage at the boarding gate of your connection flight from Istanbul. After you place your dog in cage, we will transport your dog to the cabin or cargo compartment according to direction of our regulations. 

Dogs accepted as AVIH/PETC from the original station according to our procedures and traveling to USA will be handed over to passenger at the gate of the USA bound flight. During the boarding of the Istanbul-USA flight, we will take your dog's cage empty and carry it in the cargo compartment. 

Please be informed that we might have to make seat changes due to security reasons. 

SVAN 

We accept your SVAN dogs free of charge in all our flights. 

SVAN dogs must be trained and certified. Training certificate of the dog might be requested, in case if verbal assurance could not be established. Please be certain to have valid vaccination report of the dog, identification card, harness, vest and all documents required by the country rules of destination. In case of absence of necessary documents, SVAN may not be accepted to flight. 

If SVAN dog behaves aggressive during check-in and / or boarding, if it is not well-maintained and clean, or too heavy and too big, or if the dog causes a safety hazard and/or in case if the crew informs that the dog might cause service interruption, SVAN may not be accepted in the cabin.
