A visa on arrival is available at Istanbul Airport for citizens of certain countries. As there are no e-visa counters at the airport, passengers must bring a printout of their e-visa with them. Passengers travelling to Türkiye must obtain their e-visa before starting their journey at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/tr/

  1. Where can I buy the departure fee stamp?

The departure fee stamp can be purchased at the 2 cashier desks located between check-in islands G and K and the passport control point on the Departures level. The departure fee is set by the Ministry of Finance.

  1. How can I view flights online? Are there flight information displays at the airport?

  1. Can transfer passengers stay at the airport?

Transfer passengers can stay at the airport hotel (Yotel) located inside the airport.

  1. How can prohibited items removed from baggage be collected later?

Items that pose a risk to flight security and safety are held in custody by the airport operator. Confiscated items must be collected within the specified period, either in person from the designated location or by a person authorised in writing (power of attorney); otherwise, they are destroyed. An item that is not permitted in baggage can be collected later from the Lost and Found Office or from the lockable left-luggage lockers.

  1. Are there an ambulance, doctor, medical room and pharmacy at Istanbul Airport?

Istanbul Airport has a clinic, ambulance and doctor available 24 hours a day. Medical services are provided on both the Departures and Transfer levels. There is also a pharmacy inside the terminal.

You can use the IGA WiFi service provided by IGA at Istanbul Airport. For the duration of use, connection method and current terms of the service, please refer to Istanbul Airport’s official information channels. Internet access is also available in many cafés and dining areas.

  1. Are special services provided for passengers with disabilities or illness? Are there dedicated check-in counters for passengers with disabilities? Are there special solutions for the fast transfer of ill passengers?

Istanbul Airport holds the “Accessible Airport” certificate and offers a range of services for passengers requiring special assistance.

After entering the terminal, passengers with disabilities can call an attendant on request and are escorted all the way to the aircraft. Airlines provide dedicated check-in counters, waiting areas, telephone and fax services suitable for passengers with disabilities, accessible toilets, and tactile warning strips for visually impaired passengers.

Special service is also provided at Istanbul Airport for patients arriving by ambulance.

  1. Are there smoking areas?

The airport has a total of 13 smoking terraces (10 on the international side and 3 on the domestic side) and 6 smoking balconies.

  1. Is tax refund (Tax-Refund) processing available?

Tax refund (Tax-Refund) processing is available at Istanbul Airport. Tax refund offices are located both landside on the Departures level and on the same level after passport control (airside on the international Departures level).

  1. Are there car park and valet services? Can I get information on the fees?

Istanbul Airport has a paid car park with a total capacity of 40,000 vehicles, operating 24/7. Of this, 18,000 spaces are in the covered car park and 22,000 spaces are in the open-air car park. Car park fees are set by the airport operator.

There are stores where you can print documents in the check-in area on the terminal Departures level and in the Meeters and Greeters Hall on the terminal Arrivals level.

There are 2 left-luggage offices at different points in the Meeters and Greeters Hall on the terminal Arrivals level. Electronic luggage lockers are located in the check-in area on the terminal Departures level.

  1. Are there baggage trolleys for carrying baggage? Where are they located?

A sufficient number of baggage trolleys are available landside and airside.

  1. How can I reach the Lost and Found Office? Where can lost items be collected? Where can I find out the current status of lost property claims? What happens to lost items containing personal information?

The Lost and Found Office can be reached by telephone or by visiting the airport in person. The location of the Lost and Found Office at Istanbul Airport can be found through signage, maps and applications. You can collect your found item from the Lost and Found Office against a signature, and you can also learn the status of your item from the same office. Items containing personal information are also taken into secure custody and stored.

  1. What happens if an ID is left behind at the security checkpoint?

You can apply to the Lost and Found Office.

  1. Can you give information about security screening?

Istanbul Airport has 2 screening areas: 1 landside (before passport control) and 1 airside (after passport control). Advanced X-ray devices, thermal cameras and advanced detectors are used to facilitate risk detection, with the aim of shortening processing times.

  1. Can I board the aircraft with a mobile barcode, without a boarding pass?

You can complete boarding using the QR code on your mobile boarding pass, without the need for a printed boarding pass. However, please note that a printed boarding pass may be requested depending on the practices of the departure station or the authorities of the relevant country.

  1. Can passengers who have forgotten their ID go through security screening?

Passage without ID is not possible. For security reasons, the original ID must be presented.

  1. Is it sufficient to show ID via e-Devlet?

A document displayed via e-Devlet is not valid, as it is not the original ID.

  1. Are there special walkways for visually impaired passengers at the airport?

Istanbul Airport has tactile paving for visually impaired passengers.

  1. Are there special service areas for elderly passengers and passengers with disabilities?

There are special areas at the check-in islands so that elderly passengers and passengers with disabilities can receive service. In addition, a paid buggy service is available, with passengers met at the terminal entrance.

  1. Are there information and wayfinding efforts regarding the locations of boarding gates and other facilities at Istanbul Airport?

There are approximately 9,000 wayfinding signs inside the terminal. The colours and symbols on these signs comply with international standards and are designed to be simple enough for passengers to understand easily.

You can process both your check-in and your Tax-Refund at counter K28. In addition, tax refund offices are located both landside on the Departures level and on the same level after passport control (airside on the international Departures level).

Our passengers who hold a Turkish Airlines ticket, have a layover of 6–24 hours at Istanbul Airport, and whose flight times are suitable for the tour programmes can benefit from the TourIstanbul service. Passengers must have a connecting flight via Istanbul Airport from one international point to another international point.

  1. Can I use the internet when travelling from Istanbul Airport?

In addition to the IGA Wi-Fi service provided by IGA at Istanbul Airport, you can also benefit from the internet services provided by Turkish Airlines in suitable areas.   1. What should I do if my baggage is lost?

If you experience a baggage irregularity, you must visit our Baggage Services office and file a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) before leaving the terminal building. Your baggage tag and ID document are sufficient when applying to our Baggage Services office.

You can pay for your excess baggage online via our mobile app and website, and by credit card at the check-in counters. Passengers who wish to pay in cash can pay at our Ticket Services office.

Non-standard baggage is accepted at counters 21 in island G or E. Our Business Class passengers and Miles&Smiles Elite and Elite Plus passengers can complete their procedures at counter 21 in island L.

  1. Where are the Fast Track points at Istanbul Airport?

Terminal entrance

Our Business Class passengers travelling abroad, and Miles&Smiles Elite, Elite Plus, Elite Corporate and Star Alliance Gold cardholders, can use priority entrance Gate 5 (International Fast Track) when entering the Departures level.

Passport and security checkpoint

The same passenger group can use the 6 passport counters on the left side of the area and security lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4 (X-Ray).

Domestic transfer checkpoint

For our transfer passengers in Business Class and Miles&Smiles Elite, Elite Plus, Elite Corporate and Star Alliance Gold cardholders who arrive on a domestic flight with Turkish Airlines and continue their journey on an international flight, 1 passport counter and 1 security lane (X-Ray) are allocated at the domestic transfer point.

International transfer checkpoint

For our transfer passengers in Business Class and Miles&Smiles Elite, Elite Plus, Elite Corporate and Star Alliance Gold cardholders who arrive on an international flight with Turkish Airlines and continue their journey on another international flight, 3 security lanes (X-Ray) are allocated at the international transfer point.

  1. How many hours before the flight do the counters open? What is the earliest time I can check in?

Check-in opens 48 hours before the flight. We recommend arriving at the airport at least 2 hours before domestic flights and at least 3 hours before international flights. Baggage drop-off times may vary depending on the flight.

  1. Where can passengers hand over firearms in the terminal before travelling?

After passing through Entrance Gates 1, 5 or 7 in the terminal, you can apply to the weapon handover counters. Your procedures are carried out at counters D1 and D2.

  1. Where are the Family Check-in counters for families with children?

Our Family Check-in counters for domestic passengers are located in check-in island D.

  1. Where are the check-in counters for flights requiring special security screening (USA, UK, Canada flights)?

Passengers can complete their procedures at the dedicated counters in islands G, H and J in the check-in area.

  1. At which counters can passengers with disabilities (PRM) check in?

Our passengers with disabilities (PRM) travelling on international flights can complete their procedures at dedicated check-in counters G40, G41, G42 and G43.

Our passengers with disabilities (PRM) travelling on domestic flights can use dedicated check-in counters D17, D18, D19, D20, D21 and D22.

  1. Where can Business, Elite, Elite Plus, Elite Corporate and Star Alliance Gold cardholders check in?

They will complete their procedures at the dedicated check-in area in island L in the check-in area. Our greeting staff at the entrance of island L direct our passengers.

Our passengers travelling in Business Class are served in the dedicated area on the right side of the area. Our passengers who are Miles&Smiles Elite, Elite Plus, Elite Corporate and Star Alliance Gold cardholders travelling in Economy Class are served in the dedicated area on the left side of the area.

  1. Where are the ticket sales service points in the terminal?

The domestic and international ticket sales office in the terminal is located near Entrance Gate 4.

At our ticket sales offices, our passengers travelling in Business and Economy Class are served at separate counters dedicated to them.

  1. Are there special service areas for passengers who need assistance or have disabilities?

Braille is available on the kiosks for our visually impaired passengers.

Istanbul Airport has dedicated entry-exit points and walkways for our passengers who need assistance (elderly and passengers with disabilities).

Separate check-in counters for our passengers with disabilities are available in the international and domestic check-in islands.

Dedicated passport counters for passengers with disabilities are available at all passport control points.

  1. I am in the check-in area and my flight has been cancelled. What should I do?

You can complete your procedures through our contact center, website, mobile app or kiosks. You can also get support from our Passenger Services office in the check-in area.

  1. Which passengers can use the Fast Passport Control System?

All citizens of the Republic of Türkiye who are 18 years of age or older, hold a chip (biometric) passport and obtained their passport in Türkiye can use the Fast Passport Control System.

Locations of the Fast Passport Control System at Istanbul Airport:

  • On the Departures level, 10 biometric passport gates on the left side of the passport control point
  • On the Arrivals level, 8 biometric passport gates opposite Gate C1
  • On the Arrivals level, 8 biometric passport gates opposite Gate E1

  1. I have a domestic flight. What should I do?

Using Entrance Gates 1 and 2 of the terminal, you can complete your check-in at the counters in islands D and E. You can also check in using our self-service options.

After completing your procedures, you must go through the security checkpoint opposite island D and follow your boarding gate on the passenger information screens. By following the wayfinding signs, you can reach your gate by the shortest route.

  1. I have an international flight. What should I do?

Using Entrance Gates 3 and 4 of the terminal, you can complete your check-in at the counters in islands E, F and G. You can also check in using our self-service options.

After completing your procedures, you must go through the security and passport control point opposite islands G, H, J and K and follow your boarding gate on the passenger information screens.

  1. Where can I pay for excess baggage?

You can pay for your excess baggage online via our website and mobile app. You can pay by credit card at the check-in counters. Passengers who wish to pay in cash can pay their excess baggage fees at our Ticket Services office.

  1. How many hours before the flight do the counters open? What is the earliest time I can check in?

Check-in opens 48 hours before the flight. You are advised to be at the airport at least 2 hours before domestic flights and at least 3 hours before international flights. Please note that baggage drop-off times may vary depending on the flight.

  1. Where can passengers hand over firearms in the terminal before travelling?

After passing through Entrance Gate 1, 5 or 7 in the terminal, you can apply to the weapon handover counters.

  1. Where are the Family Check-in counters for families with children?

Our Family Check-in counters for domestic passengers are located in check-in island D.

When you disembark, the jet bridges will lead you up to the Arrivals level. From here, you need to follow the blue wayfinding signs to the passport control points.

After passport control, the corridors you pass through will lead you to the stairs down to the baggage claim hall. You can follow the number of the carousel on which your baggage will arrive on the screens in the baggage claim hall.

After collecting your baggage from the relevant carousel, you can pass through the customs gate and enter the Meeters and Greeters Hall.

  1. I have arrived on a domestic flight. Where should I go when I get off the aircraft?

  1. I left my passport on the aircraft. What should I do?

If you realise that you have left your passport on the aircraft at the airport where you disembarked, it is important to apply to the relevant units immediately, before leaving the airport.

First:

Apply immediately to the Turkish Airlines Lost Property Office at the airport where you disembarked, or to the airport’s lost and found office.

If you realise you have left your passport on the aircraft before leaving the airport, you can apply to the Turkish Airlines Transfer Desk in the middle of the Transfer level and get support from the staff on duty.

Steps you can follow:

  • Apply to the airport office

If you are still at the airport, go to the Turkish Airlines Lost Property Office on the Arrivals level. Provide the staff with your flight details, your seat number and your passport details. When cleaning crews check the aircraft, items such as passports are usually handed in to this unit.

  • Complete an online form

If you have left the airport, you can fill in the “lost property” report form via the Turkish Airlines Baggage Irregularities page or the Help Center.
