Introducing Berlin

The architecture of Berlin reveals its history in quite striking fashion - the elegance and grandeur of the buildings of the Prussian era juxtapose with the stark, cold designs of Hitler's Germany, while what remains of the Berlin wall serves as a reminder of darker times. Memories of the Second World War and its horrors are preserved in the city's museums, and Berlin is home to some of the most poignant memorials commemorating the victims of that terrible era. But Berlin is also a symbol of unity and hope, exemplified by the Brandenburg Gate which has born witness to the past 200 years of history, and is now the icon of a peaceful, united, democratic Germany. Berlin offers everything from the quiet serenity of its parks, to a vibrant night life known the world over, and there's nothing better after a long day's exploring than to sit by one of the city's beautiful rivers, the Spree or the Havel, and relax as you watch the water flow by.
