Where are the inflight meals donated?

As the Turkish Airlines family, as part of our efforts to prevent waste, we make donations on behalf of passengers who notify us in advance that they will not receive in-flight catering. For domestic flights, donations are made to the Turkish Red Crescent, and for international flights, to Doctors Worldwide.

Turkish Red Crescent

Through the Red Crescent, which is the main solution partner responsible for food in the Turkey Disaster Response Plan, donations are directed toward meeting the daily nutritional needs of individuals identified as being in need through social assessments.

The Soup Kitchen Aid Project is currently ongoing in 31 provinces with 44 soup kitchens. Beneficiaries of the project include disabled, elderly, sick, or otherwise unable individuals who cannot cook at home. The continuity of the project is critical for maintaining their daily lives.

Within the scope of the Soup Kitchen Aid Project, more than 40,000 meals are distributed daily, and support is also provided in disaster situations. Following the February 6, 2023 Pazarcık-Elbistan Earthquake, soup kitchens distributed 30,000 daily portions from Diyarbakır, 130,000 from Gaziantep, and 20,000 from Kahramanmaraş from the very first day. During Ramadan activities, an average of 90,000 people received iftar meals each day.

Doctors Worldwide Association

Currently, more than 673 million people around the world suffer from hunger, while 2.3 billion lack access to sufficient and safe food. The most vulnerable are pregnant and breastfeeding women and children under the age of five. In regions with limited access to healthcare and nutrition, the number of children dying from hunger continues to rise every minute.

For over 25 years, Yeryüzü Doktorları (Doctors Worldwide) has been delivering healthcare services in underserved regions to combat malnutrition. In countries experiencing acute hunger, they establish Nutrition Health Centers; providing medical nutrition therapies and therapeutic food support for young children suffering from malnutrition, a life threatening condition caused by inadequate nutrition and requiring long-term treatment.

Alongside these efforts, their permanent healthcare centers ensure sustainable nutrition and health services, creating lasting impact for vulnerable communities.
