Ancient City of Ephesus

Founded in 6000 BCE, the Ancient City of Ephesus, in Izmir’s Selçuk district, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a fascinating history. The area’s strategic location on the Aegean coast, a unique entrance to the Mediterranean civilizations of antiquity, ensured its settlement prior to and throughout the Hellenistic, Roman, Eastern Roman, Principalities and Ottoman periods.

St. Nicholas Church

As a Christian bishop, Nicholas who known as Santa Claus arrived in Myra (Demre) in the Antalya province, around 285 CE, with a reputation for kindness, generosity and compassion — particularly on behalf of children in adverse situations. St. Nicholas Church (Noel Baba Kilisesi) was erected around 520 CE, upon the site where Nicholas himself had served.

Mevlana Tomb

Now a museum, the Tomb of the Mevlana (Shrine of Rumi) was erected in 1274; after the death of Mevlana in 1273, his son, Sultan Veled, built the tomb over his father’s grave. The museum’s collection contains historically and religiously significant artifacts, including a 9th-century Qur'an written in Kufic calligraphy, and a Qur'an written by Yâkût al-Musta'sımî, a notable Seljuk calligrapher, as well as Mevlana's wooden chest, and a copy of the Masnavi.

Virgin Mary Church

The Virgin Mary Church (Yoldath Aloho), on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, is one of the most prominent cultural destinations in Mardin. The establishment of the church is linked to the birth of Jesus Christ and it is believed that the building was constructed in the 6th century by converting a 1st-century Roman structure in the shape of a triumphal arch.

Blue Mosque (Sultan Ahmet Mosque)

The Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Mosque) is one of Istanbul's most extraordinary structures. It was designed by Sedefkar Mehmet Ağa, a student of Mimar Sinan, and erected upon the order of Sultan Ahmet I in the 17th century. It is also known as the Blue Mosque due to the more than 20,000 blue Iznik tiles on its walls. The structure is also one of Istanbul's largest building complexes, featuring a mosque, madrasahs, a hünkâr pavilion, shops, a hammam, a fountain and public fountains, a tomb, a darüşşifa (hospital), an imarethane (food pantry), and other sections.

Hagia Sophia Mosque

The Hagia Sophia is one of the most important surviving monuments in world architectural history. As the largest church of the Eastern Roman Empire in Istanbul, the Hagia Sophia was erected over three different periods: The first period was its construction by Emperor Constantius in 360. The second Hagia Sophia, rebuilt by Theodosius II in 415, was destroyed during populist uprisings. The current Hagia Sophia-i Kebir Mosque dates from the reign of Emperor Justinian. The Hagia Sophia, which has served as a church, a mosque, a museum, and is now again a mosque, is one of the world's most valuable artistic and architectural monuments.
