Elite Plus Complimentary Business Upgrade Learn more

  • Elite Plus Complimentary Business upgrade is a privilege that Elite Plus members can upgrade their paid or award tickets to Business class.
  • As of the start of Elite Plus status, the two upgrades must be used in the first and second periods. Each period is 12 months. Rights that are not used by the end of the period lose their validity. 
  • When a Complimentary Business upgrade is used, no Miles will be deducted from the member account.
  • Elite Plus members with a family membership can use their Complimentary Business upgrade for other members of the family membership.
  • After the upgrade with Elite Plus Complimentary Business upgrade, baggage allowance and passenger lounge access for the upgraded class will apply.
  • Elite Plus gift upgrade is only valid for certain fare classes in Business Cabin.

Star Alliance Upgrade Awards (SAUA) Learn more

  • Star Alliance upgrades can only be made online. Star Alliance upgrades cannot be completed at check-in or when boarding.
  • In the scope of Star Alliance upgrade awards, it is necessary to apply to the sales office of the operating airline for changes and refunds.
  • If a reservation with a Star Alliance upgrade is canceled, the Star Alliance upgrade will be canceled automatically and the Miles will be refunded to the member's account.
  • For any changes (changes to date or route, or cancelation) to be made after a Star Alliance upgrade has been issued for a Turkish Airlines flight, it will be necessary to apply to a Turkish Airlines sales office.
  • Upgrades can only be issued for the next highest flight class. Two upgrades cannot be applied on the same route.
  • For a Star Alliance upgrade award requested on a Star Alliance member airline flight, depending on the operating airline's implementation, upgrades from both Economy Class to Business Class, and Business Class to First Class can be made.
  • On airlines which operate a three-cabin class system, upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class, or Business Class to First Class can be issued.
  • For flights with two cabin classes, depending on the operating airline's implementation procedure, paid upgrades from Economy Class to Business Class, or from Economy Class to First Class can be issued.
  • The Star Alliance upgrade award is only valid for certain ticket fare classes. On Turkish Airlines flights, in order to upgrade from Economy Class to Business Class, the ticket fare class must be either Y or B.
  • Star Alliance upgrade awards cannot be used on discounted, free or award tickets.
  • Stopovers are not included in the scope of Star Alliance upgrade awards. Upgrades are issued on a route basis. An upgrade award is available for every route.
  • Star Alliance upgrade awards are only valid on flights operated by Star Alliance member airlines.
  • Codeshare flights are not included.
  • Upgrades can be issued no earlier than 355 days before and no later than 24 hours before scheduled departure.
  • Miles&Smiles members can request Star Alliance upgrade awards for themselves or for a person of their choosing. It is not necessary for the Miles&Smiles member whose Miles were used to fly.
  • On a single occasion, a Star Alliance upgrade award can be issued for at most four passengers, four Miles&Smiles members using Miles from their accounts, and for one route.
  • In SAUA, all passengers on the same pnr must be upgraded. SAUA can be requested for a maximum of 4 passengers on the same reservation at one time. If all passengers on the same reservation will not be upgraded, the reservation must be divide.
  • Alternative reservations are not permitted in the scope of Star Alliance upgrade awards.
  • With regards to earning Miles, the original ticket class will be taken into account, not the upgraded class.
  • On certain reservations with specific special requests, a Star Alliance upgrade award will not be permitted. Special requests such as seat selection and special meals must be requested from the airline operating the flight.
  • The number of Miles required for a Star Alliance upgrade award is equal for adults and children.
  • Star Alliance upgrade awards cannot be issued for infant passengers under the age of 2.
  • No upgrade certificate will be requested from passengers using a Star Alliance upgrade award.
  • The Miles&Smiles upgrade award and Star Alliance upgrade award are distinct features and their conditions and Mile values may differ.
  • If a passer who has received a Star Alliance upgrade award wishes to make a change to their reservation or cancel a reservation will not be charged a fee to do so.
  • Passengers must follow these steps when applying for Star Alliance upgrades.
  1. Indicate the number of passengers and number of Miles&Smiles members using Miles from their account.
  2. Enter Miles&Smiles membership number and PIN code.
  3. Enter the name, surname and flight details of the passenger to be upgraded.
  4. Confirm the number of Miles required for the upgrade.
  5. View the Miles debited from the Miles&Smiles account and the upgrade information saved on the reservation.
