Introducing Samsun


Known by the name of Amisos in antiquity, Samsun has always been a significant location in history. The Turkish War of Independence, led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, started here in Samsun on May 19, 1919. With its rivers, streams, creeks, plateaus, forests, and sea, Samsun is a center of agriculture located between the Halys and the Iris rivers. This tourist destination is also famous for its historical and cultural pieces.

Samsun airport information

You can make the 30 km journey from the airport to Samsun city center using the municipal bus service which departs from the stop just 5 minutes’ walk from the terminal building. Bus departure times are: 07:45, 09:45, 11:45, 15:45, 17:45 and 19:45. It costs 3 Turkish lira to get to the city center and tickets can be purchased on the bus. The journey to the city center takes around 40 minutes. There is also a passenger shuttle service, operated by Lamirjen Turizm, which works around flight arrival and departure times. The journey by shuttle costs 7.50 Turkish lira and the journey takes around 30 minutes.
