Important information for passengers traveling to Zanzibar

According to the Government of Zanzibar's new policy, effective October 1, 2024, all foreigners (except residents) entering Zanzibar will be required to have a valid Inbound Travel Insurance that will provide 92 days of coverage for the duration of their stay. Travelers without Inbound Travel Insurance will be refused entry into the country.

Please plan your travel by taking the following points into consideration before your trip.

- The application covers all passengers transiting to Zanzibar or traveling directly to Zanzibar. Since it is mandatory to have travel insurance with 92 days of coverage ready upon entry to Zanzibar, you must obtain your travel insurance before you leave your country.

- Compulsory Inbound Travel Insurance policy must only be purchased through the “Zanzibar Insurance Corporation”. Travel insurance policies not purchased through Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (even if they have international validity) will not be accepted.

- You can purchase your travel insurance through www.visitzanzibar.go.tz.       

- After completing your insurance transaction, a QR code will be defined and sent to you by Zanzibar Insurance Corporation via e-mail, and you will be asked to present the QR code defined for you when you enter Zanzibar. The code you will present at customs will be sent to the email name you specified on the form when you made the purchase for your insurance.

- Your travel insurance will be valid for up to 92 consecutive days from the date of your entry into the country. (For example, a foreigner comes to Zanzibar for a while, then returns to his/her country.  If he/she needs to come to Zanzibar again, the 92-day insurance policy will no longer be valid. Foreigners are required to re-issue a 92-day travel insurance policy each time they enter Zanzibar).

- If for any reason a foreigner needs to stay in Zanzibar for more than 92 days, they will need to purchase a new travel insurance policy.
