    Membership Status

    When you join the Miles&Smiles program, your membership begins at Classic status. With the Status Miles earned from your flights, you can upgrade your status and enjoy additional benefits such as extra baggage allowance, access to private lounges, and upgrading your Economy class ticket to Business class.

    Star Alliance Gold Card holders can carry one cabin baggage measuring 23x40x55 cm and weighing 8 kg and one personal item measuring 40x30x15 cm for their Economy class flights. They can carry two pieces of hand baggage, each weighing 8 kg and measuring 23x40x55 cm, and one personal item for their Business class flights.

    Access Additional Privileges by Upgrading Your Status

    When you have accumulated a certain number of Status Miles in the preceding 12 months, your Status automatically upgrades and is valid for 2 years. You can continue to accumulate Status Miles to advance to a higher status.

    Your Status Miles are checked daily. The status upgrade process is carried out as soon as you meet the conditions, so you have a daily opportunity to upgrade your status. As the 12-month period changes every day, your total Status Miles may increase or decrease on a daily basis.


    Your Status is Valid for 2 Years Your status is valid until the last day of the month 2 years from the start date. During this period, you can enjoy the privileges provided by your status. You can maintain your status or upgrade to a higher status level by accumulating Status Miles.


    You Can Continue to Use Privileges by Maintaining Your Status

    While enjoying the benefits, you can extend your status for an additional two years by meeting one of the first- or second-term protection conditions.

    The number of Status Miles that must be earned during these periods in order to maintain your status is listed below.
    The extension is effective at the end of your current status. For example, if you have a Status that expires on March 31, 2024, and you meet the conditions of protection at any time prior to March 31, 2024, your new two-year period begins on April 1, 2024, and ends April 30, 2026.
    The Miles that must be earned within certain periods in order to maintain your status are stated below. It is sufficient to fulfil one of the specified conditions.

    Why do I earn different amounts of Status Miles for the same flights? Learn more

    The Status Miles earned from flights are based on the distance of the route travelled. Status Miles earned on the same flight may vary depending on two factors:

    - The amount earned may increase or decrease depending on the booking class of the ticket you purchased.

    - If you have Classic Plus, Elite or Elite Plus status, you will earn 25% extra Status Miles on Business Class flights.

    If you meet the status protection conditions, your new 2-year period will begin when the validity date of your current status expires.

    I met the requirements for status protection, so why wasn’t my status renewed? Learn more

    If you meet the status renewal requirements, the renewal process will begin as soon as when your current status expires. With renewal, you can use your status for another two years. For example, if your current status expires on March 31, 2026, and you have met the renewal criteria up to that date, your new status will be valid from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2028.

    - You can convert the Miles you earn from spending with Miles&Smiles co-branded credit cards into Status Miles. With this application, you can get 1 Status Mile for every 5 Miles.
