Introducing Bahrain
Comprising 33 islands, Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf. The archipelago is home to one of the richest cultural heritages in the Middle East, with archaeological remains dating to 3000 BC. Bahrain Fort (Qal’at al-Bahrain), in Manama, is a UNESCO World Heritage site containing artifacts and ruins from numerous civilizations, including the Dilmun Burial Grounds, housing more than 170,000 ancient tombs and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Barbar Temple, dating to the Bronze Age. This fascinating nation on the Arabian Peninsula was the first Gulf country to discover oil (in 1932) and Bahrain continues to sustain its economy through the oil and jewelry sectors; the tradition of pearl diving, emblematic of the pre-oil era, continues to thrive. Bahrain also stands out for contemporary structures such as the Bahrain World Trade Center and Bahrain Financial Harbor.
Turkish Airlines operates flights to Bahrain at Bahrain International Airport, in Muharraq. Flights to Bahrain take an average of four hours and 10 minutes. Ticket fares may vary depending on the season.
