Introducing Kazakhstan
The world's ninth largest country by area, Kazakhstan stretches from Central Asia to Eastern Europe, sharing borders with China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. There are numerous places to visit in Kazakhstan, which is one of the independent Turkic states, including splendid historical buildings, sacred sites, and scenic natural areas. Kazakhstan’s capital, Astana (formerly known as Nur-Sultan) features striking modern structures such as the emblematic Bayterek Tower, while the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmet Yesevi, in Turkestan, and the Zenkov Cathedral in Almaty are other well-known destinations for a glimpse into Kazakhstan's history. Dramatic natural wonders like Charyn, one of Central Asia's largest canyons, attract visitors, as do the country’s colorful festivals and events. Nowruz, the Persian New Year, is observed with great enthusiasm, with many city squares the settings for festive celebrations.
Turkish Airlines flies to four different Kazakhstan destinations. Flights to Astana, Almaty, Turkestan, and Aktav depart from Istanbul Airport, with direct flights taking between three to five hours.
