Construction on Samsun Çarşamba Airport began in 1996; the new airport was built to replace the old Samsun Airport. Located in Çınarlık, Çarşamba district, Samsun Çarşamba Airport opened in 1998, serves domestic and international air traffic, and is around 25 kilometers from the city center. Airport shuttles, municipal buses and taxis operate between the airport and the city.
